We have had between 2 and 10 guinea pigs at a time over the past few years, so we have experience in taking care of piggies.
We used to use wood chips, but the shavings ended up all over the house, and I was tired of having to lug heavy, messy containers home. Eventually we switched over to LuftPets washable liners for our Midwest Guinea Pig Cages.
The key to liners is making sure that you know how to use them, and that you have enough so you have time between having to wash them.
LuftPets has a variety of liners to choose from, and we have been happy with their products. We recently added this new liner to our collection.
The great thing about the liners is that they are easy to use. Tip – I use a thin liner on the bottom, and put another liner over top. And I change the top liner daily.
The liner is soft, and nice on the guinea pig’s paws.
We have several older guinea pigs, including Rogie, who is at least 5-6 years old. I like that the cage liner is gentle on their feet and more comfortable overall than wood chips.
After a day, the guinea pigs tend to make a big mess. I simply shake the liner out over the trash can, and then I give it a more serious shake outdoors.
The underside of the liner is waterproof, which helps to contain messes. It is also non-slip, for all the piggy antics of the guinea pigs running around.
I pre-wash the liners in a utility sink, and then I wash a load of liners all together. I like to sun dry them if possible, since it helps to dry them quickly and freshen them up.
These are so easy to use and very eco-friendly. They are better for our pets compared to wood chips. Check out LuftPets Cage Liners on Amazon!
