While there are a lot of benefits to working from home, there are a lot of people who can find it very stressful. If you’ve been used to going to the office day after day, year after year, then working from home can be a big change up and present significant challenges.
However, if you do find working from home a bit stressful, then there are things you can do.
Break things up
We tend to feel the responsibility of working efficiently much more when we work from home. However, just because you’re sat at home doesn’t mean you have to spend every minute of the day glued to your computer screen.
Most people work best when they work in short, sharp bursts, and this means breaking your day up into manageable chunks. Work isn’t about how long you spend at it, it’s about the work you produce, and you might find you get more work done if you give yourself plenty of time to take breaks.
Get into a routine
It can be really hard to keep finding motivation if you don’t have a set routine. When you’ve got your day planned out ahead of time, though, you know exactly what you’ve got to do and you can quickly slip into the rhythm.
Working from home might give you more control over your schedule, but that doesn’t mean you should avoid routines altogether. The better you can schedule your work, the easier it will be to manage the stress levels and make sure you’re spreading the load.
Limit distractions
While there are still plenty of distractions in a traditional office, it is at least specifically designed as a work environment. That might not be the case in your house, and this can be the cause of a lot of stress.
It’s not always easy, but it’s important you find ways to separate your workspace from your living space in some way. For some people, this will be easier than others, but there are always things you can do to try and create a better working environment and limit distractions.

Have a cut-off time

This is why it’s a good idea to set a cut-off time where you close down the computer and finish your day. If you’re scheduling well, then there shouldn’t be a need to keep working at all hours of the night, so make sure you shut down and enjoy your personal life too.
