In 2018, there were 3 billion babies born in the United States.

If you’re about to be one of the millions of new moms out there, you may feel overwhelmed and unprepared as you get ready for this exciting chapter in your life.

Whether you’re about to pop or know someone who is, being prepared for baby is essential. Read our guide on some of these must haves for a new mom.

  1. Car Seat and Stroller

Once you have your new baby, you’ll definitely need a good way to get them from Point A to B. You want to make sure that you can buy a good one that will be reliable enough for you to use.

If you’re going to be switching them from the car to the stroller, you may even want to think about getting a car seat that can snap into the stroller. This will make it easier for you to transport your new baby from place to place.

And if you don’t feel like pushing the stroller around, you can just carry the carriage itself.

  1. Diapers

Newborns tend to poop a lot more than you would think. You’re going to need to stock up on diapers. And probably more than you think you’ll need.

You can either get disposable ones or reusable ones made from cloth.

Whichever route you go, make sure that you have enough because running out in the middle of the night isn’t fun for anyone.

  1. Boogie Wipes

You may have never even considered buying these or wondered why you’d ever need these. You could just use a regular tissue or wipe, but they’re normally too rough for the baby’s delicate nose.

Some wipes will even leave behind a residue that will sting their nose and make it crusty.

However, the Boogie Wipes have saline which can be really gentle on their nose. You never know when a cold or allergies will happen, so make sure you’re stocked up on these.

  1. Boppy

A Boppy pillow is always a good idea, and you’ll be grateful you have one while nursing.

There are other brands, but the Boppy may be the best. This one provides the best amount of comfort and cushioning, and many of them are pretty cute!

While you’re nursing, cradling a baby in the crook of your arm will get tiring and exhausting, but the Boppy helps support some of that weight.

You don’t have to just use it for nursing either. You can use it for cuddling or even tummy time as they get older.

  1. Onesies With Mittens

Mittens are cute for their tiny baby hands, but they can fall off really easily and then get lost. You may even lose them when trying to wash them in the washing machine.

However, there are some onesies that actually come with mittens attached so that you don’t lose them when they roll and fuss around.

This is great because it can also stop them from scratching their face with their sharp nails.

  1. Nail Clippers

You may not expect it at first, but their nails will actually be sharper than you anticipate.

At some point, you’ll have to clip their nails, but it can be difficult to try and do it when their nails are first forming.

There are special nail clippers you can get that are made for baby’s nails so you don’t have to worry about accidentally cutting their skin or hurting them.

  1. Sound Machine

If you want to increase your chances of having your baby sleep through the night, you should get a sound machine.

The noisy toys and animals are cute, but they’re not going to last the entire night.

When babies are growing in the womb, they’re used to hearing a rhythmic heartbeat. When you put them to bed and they suddenly hear silence, they may start to cry.

However, you can get a sound machine to replicate a heartbeat or even just provide some kind of white noise. This may help calm them down so that they can sleep (and you can too)!

  1. Night Light

You may not even think about getting a night light, but it will help you and your baby when they first come home.

They’ll most likely be waking up throughout the night, which is perfectly normal.

A nightlight can help ease any fear or anxieties they have. You can find some in all shapes and sizes, and some of them even come with functional gadgets. They can create shadows, play white noise, or even play a lullaby.

When you have to wake up in the middle of the night, it will be useful to be able to see where you’re going without having to blind yourself by turning on any lights.

  1. Baby Carrier

A baby carrier is also incredibly helpful when you have your newborn. If you’re going to have multiple children, this will save your life.

You’ll be able to carry around your baby while also having your hands free to do chores or errands or take care of other children.

It also calms your child down because it swaddles them in a comforting and reassuring way. They also get to spend time being close to you.
