If you or anybody in your family suffers from allergies, it’s important that you keep your home allergen free. In the summer, a lot of people have trouble with pollen allergies but as the weather gets colder, it’s things inside the house like dust mites or maybe even mold. If you notice that you are getting a runny nose, itchy eyes, or a cold like symptoms in your throat, that could be a sign that you have a lot of allergens in your home. The problem tends to be worse in the winter because you don’t have the windows open, so air doesn’t circulate very well and those allergens hang around. Luckily, there are some simple things that you can do to combat them. These are the best ways to keep your home allergen free this winter.
Deep Clean The Carpets
Dust mites are a very common cause of allergy problems, so you need to make sure that you get rid of as much dust as possible, which means cleaning regularly. The carpets are one of the places where a lot of dust collects and even if you vacuum often, you may not be getting all of it. You will suck up the surface level dust but there will still be a lot buried deep down, which you can only get out by deep cleaning the carpets. You can either hire a professional cleaning company to do it for you or buy a carpet cleaner and do it yourself. If you have any rugs in the house, you should send them to a professional cleaning company, because a carpet cleaner may be too hard on them, especially if they are old. You should give your carpets and rugs a deep clean every few months to keep allergens at bay.
Change Bedding Regularly
Your bedding is another place that holds on to a lot of dust mites, and there is also a risk of bed bugs if you are not careful. That’s why it’s important that you change and wash your bedding on a regular basis. During the winter, you should be doing it more often than you would in the summer because more dust settles when you don’t have a good flow of clean air coming through the house. You can also get allergen proof covers for your pillows to help stop dust mites irritating you during the night.
Get An Air Purifier
If you are having trouble with allergens and you can’t seem to get rid of them no matter how often you clean, you should get an air purifier in your home. They’re great for recycling the air so in the winter, when you can’t have the windows open, you get a constant flow of fresh air. All of the allergens will be filtered out, and it will also clean the air of any other pollutants so it’s better for your overall health.
These simple tricks should help you to remove allergens from your home so you don’t need to deal with allergies over the winter.
I really need to deep clean my carpets more often. I find that if I am dusting and breath in the fumes, I can get a cough.
I think it’s about time our family gets an air purifier. I am already feeling the allergens – woke up sneezing and blowing my nose this morning.
We just ordered an air purifier for my mom. It’s hard to open the windows in the winter so they are very helpful.
Changing the bedding regularly. I keep reminding myself to do that. It can get away from me sometimes. So helpful.
Thank you very usefull!
