I have to be honest, when it comes to music, jazz it isn’t something that I have always enjoyed, so I was a little hesitant about listening to this new children’s CD… but as soon as we listened to the new “Bon Voyage” album by Jazzy Ash, all I knew was that this is feel-good music! All of the songs on “Bon Voyage” are sure to have you tapping your toes and singing along.  If you’ve ever listened to jazz that was hard to keep up with, this is a whole other story.  Some of my struggle with some jazz is that the music doesn’t stick with me.  But this couldn’t be further from the truth in this album – if anything, you can’t get these songs out of your head.

Jazzy Ash Bon Voyage

Ashli Christoval, or Jazzy Ash, is adorable, and her music is just as fun and exuberant as she looks.  The album cover has such a fun feeling to it, and the music is just as warm and bubbly.

I really wanted to pay homage to Louis Armstrong who, of course, is a New Orleans native has been such an influence for me. I feel like the playfulness of the melody and the lyrics of “Heebie Jeebies” fit nicely into this collection of songs, which are themed around motion.  Also, “Heebie Jeebies” is a relatively unknown song outside of the jazz community, and one of my primary goals is to help children discover fun (and appropriate!) jazz music from the past, alongside my original tunes.
