This is a fun and easy craft you can do with your little ones. A great springtime craft and nice upcycled project using an egg carton. Plus, you can make this an educational activity to learn about upcycling and the life cycle of a caterpillar.

Materials needed
All you need for this are a few materials:
~ Egg carton
~ Paint
~ Markers
~ Pipe cleaners
~ any other accessories, such as googly eyes, stick-on gems, etc.

Instructions
Start by cutting your egg carton to size. You can do a full row or you can make a shorter caterpillar.
Kids can either paint or even use markers to decorate their caterpillar.
Once any paint has dried, add embellishments, such as pipe cleaner antennae or legs, googly eyes, and so on.
You can tailor the craft for different ages to make it easier or more complex. Both of my kids had fun doing this, at ages 5 and 7.
Learning opportunities
You can use this activity for a multitude of learning!
~ butterfly or moth life cycle
~ types of butterflies and caterpillars
~ reusing and upcycling (egg cartons) – great for Earth Day!
