On a recent trip to Wilmington, North Carolina, we decided to stop by the New Hanover County Arboretum.
This is a free garden open every day from 8-5, and is easy to find in the Wilmington area.

We took Google Maps to find the garden, and it is easy to get to.
There is plenty of parking, and we even found a spot in the shade. I loved seeing all the Spanish Moss as we entered the gardens.

There is a nice fountain as you come in to the gardens, as well as other fountains, sculptures, and more throughout the grounds.

There are many different areas in the garden to explore, from the koi pond to the butterfly garden.

There are many neatly maintained paths around the gardens. It was really nice how well-kept everything is here.

There are many flowers, plants and trees to check out.

I enjoyed seeing a variety of palms here, since I only recently moved here from the North.

Most of the plants are labeled so you know what they are.

I was familiar with some plants, and it was neat to see a variety of species I was not familiar with at all.

The pond is really pretty, with a metal dragon sculpture in the middle. There are a variety of

The bridge is a great spot for taking photos.

We saw koi fish, turtles, and frogs while we were there.

There are restrooms here, as well as a gift shop.
We enjoyed our time at the Arboretum, which was peaceful and interesting. It was neat to explore the different areas of the gardens and learn about different plants.

I really enjoyed this peaceful tour of the New Hanover County Arboretum. The koi pond, butterfly garden, Spanish moss, and beautifully maintained paths make it sound like a lovely place to slow down and explore nature.
It looks like a beautiful garden! I love that red bridge over the koi pond.
What a beautiful place to explore! I love that there are so many different areas to enjoy, especially the koi pond, butterfly garden, and all those gorgeous plants and flowers. The fact that it’s free makes it an even better spot to visit while in Wilmington!
I lived in Jacksonville NC for several years. I never got the opportunity to visit the arboretum. I do recommend visiting Fort Macon State Park next time you’re in the area. Emerald Isle is also a very nice beach and pier fishing.
Walking through green spaces provides a nice break from the daily grind. Finding quiet areas for photos makes an afternoon outdoors much more enjoyable for anyone.
I do love visits to gardens as find them so relaxing as well as the amazing colours around you. Definitely somewhere to visit if you are in the area
First of all I absolutely love this area…. I used to live in Myrtle Beach and would go here often 😉 I so have to check out this spot the next time we are there as it looks amazing and beautiful too and there is nothing I love more than being outdoors so it is perfect for me 😉
omg i can’t believe how beautiful the place is, woooooowwwww….I love the arboretum but the colors and the fountain make it that much more gorgeous. A must-see for sure.
How beautiful! This is why i love arboretums so much. It’s always like stepping into a fairy tale, and discovering all the different plants is so much fun.
I love arboretums like this one. Theyr’e so lush and gorgeous, and they way they’re put together really draws you in.
Walking through peaceful green spaces clears the mind completely. Finding quiet spots filled with blooming flowers and shady trees makes traveling feel truly refreshing.
