We are always looking for ways to be more eco-friendly in our household, from composting to using reusable bags. It is important to me to reduce my carbon footprint and to also be a role model for my kids. One of the things that is an easy swap is using an alternative to plastic straws. We have used some different types of straws, and most recently we have enjoyed using CornNext straws.

CornNext products are made with a corn-based material, which is biodegradable. It is great to be able to toss these in the compost bin when we are done using them! However, they are designed to naturally degrade in any environment, making it beneficial whether or not you put these in the compost.

Here are some of the great benefits of these straws (from the CornNext website):
- Break down in as little as 30 days leaving behind zero microplastics.
- Are crafted from one of America’s most abundant and renewable crops.
- Deliver durability plus a surprising twist: natural fruit flavors (orange, strawberry, lemon, lime, blueberry, or unflavored) that pair perfectly with sparkling water, cocktails, or everyday drinks.
- Carry a negative carbon footprint, a rare achievement in consumer goods.
There are many flavors of these straws, which make them a pretty cool option. The flavor isn’t strong, but it is nice addition to a drink. For example, the lemon adds a nice little touch to plain water.
There is also an unflavored option, if you don’t prefer having a flavor.

The straws work best with cold or room temperature beverages. These have been perfect for this summer’s hot weather.

I am also a fan of these since they do not pose any risk of microplastics!
We like to keep a bunch of these in the car, since we prefer these over paper straws for our drinks. Since they are individually wrapped in paper, it makes it easy to bring along for travel. This is a great option for when you are on the road, vacation, etc. While we do have some stainless straws at home, they aren’t always good for travel, since you have to be able to wash them with a special brush, dry them, and store them.

It is nice to be able to throw these right in the compost when we are done.

CornNext straws are a great option for straws. We aren’t a fan of paper straws, and it is nice to have an option that is biodegradable.

These straws sound amazing! I’d prefer to use these for straws as opposed to the plastic ones. I’ll have to order a package.
Very cool straw. I can see myself using these when we travel. At home, I use a reusable straw.
This is my first time hearing about this brand of straws, and they sound amazing! We already use reusable straws at home, and my daughter even takes them to work. I definitely need to order a set for her; these straws would be a great addition to her collection.
love that they’re compostable and come in fun flavors! Definitely going to check them out for my kids lunches and our weekend drinks. Thanks for sharing!!
What an amazing innovation! It’s so surprising that straws can be produced from corn-based materials, so cool!
This age is so amazing! Flavored straws?! I am blown away. My kids would love this.
How have I not heard of flavoured straws before. My grandkids would love these and I love they are bio degradable as well. I am now on the hunt for these
I love how many products are biodegradable now. So much better to have things that can break down or be composted without all of the plastic.
Wow! These are so cool! I would love to get my hands on some of these! Like you said, I think these would be great in my car!
I would like these better than the paper straws. I like to chew on my straw out of habit. Hard to do with a paper straw.
These are awesome!!! I will buy them from Amazon, they’re amazing. We try to avoid any use of plastic and these help a lot. Thank you.
I think the slight flavouring is such a cool idea, especially when drinking water. I use reusable straws that I take out everywhere with me, but these are a great alternative x
I have never heard of these but how brilliant , I think my girls would really love these
I cannot believe how many new types of straws have popped up in the last few years. It’s so wild to me that there is so much innovation in something like that.
