If you’re a tech buff, there’s plenty to interest you in the temporary living space. Sounds fascinating? There are multiple developments that will awe and delight you simultaneously, ranging from underwater habitats to space pods. While these futuristic ideas are captivating, the concept of temporary living is already evolving in today’s world—luxury serviced apartments in Paris and other global cities are offering high-tech, flexible stays designed for modern nomads. Yes, you read it right! Let’s look at some of the newest happenings in the temporary living sector below.

How Will Our Future Cities Look Like?
How and where you live could soon be changing! The world’s biggest cities are set to be those that ride the cutting-edge technology boom. Think of temporary and stackable housing pods and underwater cities, in addition to buying 3D printed homes right off the shelf in a way! There could be several such awe-inspiring innovations designed to meet the housing shortage and overpopulation issues plaguing most of the world today.
So, you could well live in a building with its own personal microclimate or in a city that’s built majestically into the sky. The possibilities are endless! You’ll also love how scientists are predicting everything from solar or tidal power-backed floating sea cities to spaceports that help you get to Mars or the Moon with ease. Then there could be huge bridges that carry whole cities, along with super-high sky cities or buildings. Spending time in a collapsible/stackable living pod could be the norm and so could going down to a super deep basement for some recreation. These zones may contain everything from submerged gardens to gyms, pools, restaurants, shopping outlets, and more! Think of how cool it could be!
Submarine Experiments for Temporary Living
You’ll be amazed to know how submarines are now driving advanced innovations in terms of temporary living. What’s interesting is that submarines can recreate the same conditions astronauts face during their missions in space. So what this means is the sense of being confined and stressed while also being isolated from the outside world. Scientists are now carrying out these submarine living experiments and gathering samples to track mood, stress levels, and immune health. Think of it as a preparatory phase for future space missions and prolonged flights.
The ESA (European Space Agency) is closely working with the Portuguese Space Agency and Portuguese Navy for the pioneering SubSea Project. The first batch of project crew finished a 60-day underwater expedition recently, comprising 25 volunteers who resided in submarines with similar environments as those encountered by astronauts. Sounds fascinating? Submarines could soon transition into temporary living habitats if it all goes well!
Space Pods for Future Habitats- Could Be Sooner Thank You Think
The day may not be too far when you can actually live in a space pod on vacation! As outlandish as that sounds, there’s already research going on to create inflatable pods which offer more adaptable lifestyles on Mars and the Moon. These will enable research facilities, launch pads for missions, and living quarters, while tackling harsh conditions and integrating life support systems to sustain people for longer durations.
So, you could potentially book a flight to Mars for that much-needed getaway and get into your luxurious space pod when you arrive! While we may have to wait a bit longer for space pods, modern cities are already offering next-gen temporary housing—like fully furnished, tech-enabled short term rentals in Paris, perfect for travelers who crave both comfort and flexibility. Oh the sheer possibility itself!
The Pioneering Underwater Habitat Project
Have you heard of Vanguard? If you haven’t, then picture this- a UK company has successfully managed to create modular underwater habitats that may be used for almost everything from tourism and security to marine studies and research. Can you even imagine staying underwater for hours, days, weeks, and months at a time? That’s what’s in the works at DEEP, which is building these habitats for long-term sea exploration and occupation.
The first such habitat, called Vanguard, will be launched by end-2025 and will test the ground for a more advanced Sentinel habitat project that will roll out in 2027. The former is more suitable for up to three people, while the latter can take up to six people for longer missions up to 28 days. Interestingly, it will have both dry and wet labs along with what is known as a moon pool. Even more fascinatingly, it’s being built by six robots with metal-wire 3D printing and will be configurable with stackable bunks and layers. DEEP is on a mission to make the ocean sexy, just like what happened with SpaceX and the possibilities of mainstream space travel. You could potentially check-in to an underwater living pod in the near future. Doesn’t it sound thrilling? You bet!
Futuristic Temporary Living- Closer Than We Think?
So, picture a world full of submarines, deep sea living, transformed basements, space pods, and sky cities. It all adds up to an incredibly fascinating future for temporary living that you’ll probably get to experience in this lifetime! Of course, it’s very much possible, considering how technology’s marching ahead every moment. Climate change and global warming have already triggered the alarm bells and overpopulation will further aggravate the space and resource crunch globally. So, this could lead to more modular and adaptable living solutions with more focus on creating home-like and community environments at all temporary spaces.
To think of it, we’ll be a mostly globally mobile population in the coming decades, with more remote work and location-agnostic lifestyles. This will naturally spur the growth of futuristic and eco-friendly short-term living spaces that we can flit across. And of course, stackable and collapsible pods and 3D-printed modular housing could well be earlier realities, considering their possibilities across temporary living, tourism, hospitality, and other sectors. Of course, personalization and sustainability will play a massive role in these developments. And then there’s an exciting future ahead with underwater, space, and sky-high (literally!) living becoming ways of life for energy-independent and resourceful communities.
So, if you still feel this is all a fantastic dream that won’t come to life, think again! Technology is completely reshaping how we live and it could well usher in all the thrilling innovations mentioned above sooner than you think! It suffices to say that we simply cannot wait to see what’s in store!
