At 35, I’ve learned a few life lessons: “getting ready quickly” means being late, the perfect checkout line always moves slower than the rest, and shaving is a marathon in which you always lag behind.
I once believed that a razor was a magic wand that could turn my legs into a silky dream. But in reality, it all ended in cuts, irritation, and a growing collection of half-empty bottles of shaving gel. After a lot of mental (and skin) trauma, I realized: it was time to change something.
Here are the five moments after which I said “no” to the razor and “yes” to sugaring.

Why did I choose sugar waxing?
You’re not alone if you’re sick of fighting against razor burn, squandering valuable time, and enduring ingrown hairs. Here’s why I made the decision to switch and go for sugar waxing in Calgary.
1. Razor vs. skin: an eternal war with no winners
My skin looked more like a battle map than a smooth surface. Cuts, rashes, red spots, burning – classics. It’s especially “nice” when your legs look perfect only for the first hour after shaving, and then the itching and irritation begin. Well, I decided that my body deserves more than this endless battle.
2. Time flies… but not while shaving
How much time have I spent shaving in my life? I’m afraid to even count. First a shower, then a search for a perfectly sharp blade (and they are never perfect), then 20 minutes of gymnastics in an attempt not to forget a single area. And then – surprise! – a missed strip remains on the knee, and everything starts over again. If I had used this time to study a foreign language, I would already be giving interviews in French.
3. Razor waste: “thank you” from the environment
Plastic razors, cartridges, packaging from shaving gels – all this was sent to the landfill. When I started thinking about the amount of waste my personal “razor industry” produces, I felt uneasy. After all, I sort my trash, use a shopper instead of bags, but at the same time throw away plastic blades every month. An ecological disaster on the scale of one bathroom.
4. A razor ≠ a cheap way to take care of yourself
People say that shaving is the most budget-friendly method of hair removal. But if you add up all the costs of razors, replacement blades, foam, moisturizers and even emergency waxing visits before a vacation (when you just can’t stand this routine anymore), it comes out to a solid amount. No wonder my wallet was drowning in these expenses along with me.
5. Hair grows faster than my determination to fight it
The main pain: you shave today, and tomorrow morning you already notice that everything is starting to grow back. It felt like my hair was just waiting for this procedure to take revenge for its disappearance. And then I realized: I deserve a method that works longer, and not one that turns me into a participant in an endless race against nature.
Sugaring: my skin revolution
After all these disappointments, I decided to try sugaring. And what do you think? I finally got rid of irritation, forgot about ingrown hairs and stopped being nervous when I urgently need to put on a skirt.
Here’s benefits of sugaring and why I fell in love with this method:
- Gentle to the skin. Sugaring contains only natural ingredients: sugar, lemon juice and water. No aggressive chemicals that make the skin look like it’s been attacked by thousands of mini-blades.
- Long-lasting effect. Hair is removed from the root, which means I can forget about its existence for 3-4 weeks. Now my morning routine takes exactly 15 minutes less.
- Less pain – more comfort. Unlike wax, sugar paste does not stick to living skin cells, which means there are no burns, unnecessary trauma or burning.
- Eco-friendly. Sugaring does not require disposable razors and foam canisters – only paste and fabric strips that can be used several times.
- Minimum worries. No more “oh, I forgot to shave” – now my skin is always smooth, and I don’t have to think about it every day.
If you are still hesitating…
For those like me who prefer sugaring and live in Calgary, here are some tips on how to prepare for your sugaring hair removal sessions. For those, who are still hesitant to change your hair removal method, think about this: how much time, nerves and money do you spend on fighting hair growth that still wins?
Switching to sugari
ng was not just a change in my beauty routine for me, but real freedom. Freedom from irritation, ingrown hairs and the constant feeling of “I forgot something” before leaving the house.
If you are ready to take a step towards a more comfortable life without the shaving routine, try sugaring. Your body, your time and your skin will thank you!
