Living in the Northeast means cold winters for us!  We don’t always love the cold and wintry weather, and we like to try to do as many winter activities as possible.

And just because it is cold, doesn’t mean you can’t get outside and have fun.  It is especially important in the winter to be able to keep the kids busy and active.  We try to do a variety of fun winter activities, both indoors and outdoors.

Here are some of the things we like to do in winter:

Go sledding

Have hot cocoa after spending time outside

Check out holiday lights

Go snow tubing

Go ice skating

Make maple candy on snow

Have a family movie night

Go snowshoeing

Make snow ice cream (not just snow+milk – check out my recipe here!)

Feed the birds – you can make bird food crafts or bird feeders, too

Make a snowman

Work on a puzzle

Drink spiced apple cider, eggnog, or other fun hot beverages

Random acts of kindness

Visit a maple syrup farm (usually around the last couple weeks of winter, although sometimes a little later)

Bake goodies – you can even have a cookie exchange!

Holiday movies & music

Donate to the food pantry, donate holiday gifts for families who are struggling

Decorate (for winter and the holidays – learn how to make neat paper snowflakes!)
