Let’s be real for a second. Next to the presents and the parties, the best thing about the holiday season is the cookies. While the king of these may be the gingerbread man, there are so many other fantastic and tasty options it can be a little overwhelming.
Here are five of the best Christmas cookie recipes to up your cookie game.
- Peppermint Meltaways
Is there a taste that is more synonymous with Christmas than peppermint? Not really. It is in everything from candy canes to countless baked goods. And peppermint meltaways are a great addition to the yumminess of the season.
Not only do they actually melt in your mouth, but they also add a classy and festive vibe to plates of cookies or used in a Christmas cookie tins for special gifts to give to teachers or coworkers.
- Rum Balls
A little spicy, a little sweet, 100% delicious. Rum balls are super easy to make and don’t require any baking, making them a great go-to for any holiday party or to keep Santa’s tummy full on his journey. Plus, since they consist of only four ingredients even the most novice baker can whip these up and have them be perfect.
Plus, if you have any old or stale cookies or brownies laying around, you can use those as the base. So, they can also be a great way to cut down on food waste.
- Gingerbread Men and Women
What Christmas cookie recipe list would be complete without this spicy treat on it? A very lacking one, indeed. Plus, decorating gingerbread men and women can be a great activity for kids, either at parties or to help them feel like a part of the process.
To make them even more fun and festive, instead of just using gumdrops to decorate them, why not use frosting and other candies? That way you can personalize them to your style and taste.
- Sugar Cookies
Next to the rum balls, these are probably the easiest cookies on this list to make. Plus, sugar cookies can be cut into all sorts of holiday-themed shapes and decorated with red and green frosting to make them look even more season-appropriate.
Plus, you can use any left-over candy you didn’t use for your gingerbread people as fun bells and whistles on your sugar cookies. Another great way to create less waste and not gorge on leftover candy.
- Chocolate-Dipped Gingersnaps
There is something warm and comforting about chocolate and ginger together. Maybe it is the sweetness of the chocolate mixed with the spiciness of the ginger? And chocolate-dipped gingersnaps are no different.
It doesn’t matter what kind of chocolate you prefer, white, milk or dark. All of them will complement these chewy and tangy cookies to perfection. And don’t be afraid to add some sprinkles to the final product for a little festive flair.
