We recently decided to check out the Albany Indoor Rock Gym. The gym is located just off Central Ave in Albany, NY.
The first thing we had to do was fill out waivers for each one of us.Β Our entry cost was $12 per person and $6.50 for harness and shoe rentals.
Our time at Albany Indoor Rock gym started with a training session to get us set up with the equipment and how to use it. We worked with Matt, who was fantastic – very knowledgeable and helpful. He showed us around the gym, helped us with harnesses and ropes, and walked us through the process several times of getting ready to climb. We were trained to clip the ropes to our harnesses, check the ropes, and belay for our climbing partner.
There are lots of different ropes and climbing paths to choose from, of varying difficulty.
Coming down the wall.
After the kids had been climbing for a while, they decided to check out the expansive cave system in the walls of the gym. To see if you can fit and maneuver through the walls of the caves, they have this contraption for you to climb through. While the entire cave is not this narrow, there are some tight spots.
I had only a brief moment to snap a (blurry) picture before the kids were gone. They spent well over an hour in the cave system, and only came out for a break because it was past their dinnertime and they were quite hungry.
The tunnels in the cave range from large to small, completely dark, to openings in the walls.
We had a great time checking out the Albany Indoor Rock Gym, and will definitely go back sometime. Now that we are familiar with how to use the equipment, we will be ready to use it next time we go.

What a fun and safe way for kids or everyone to get out and get fit. Teach kids balance. Hand eye coordination.
This looks like so much fun. We have things similar around us but not this massive. Would love to have something like this close. My kids would love it.
Ok, this place seems absolutely amazing! I would love to visit here with my family – seems like the perfect weekend activity.
What a fun place! My kids would absolutely love it if I took them here. I wonder if we have one locally.
Such a wonderful and fun place to be especially for our kids. They will definitely going a blast here, plus a great way to exercise while having so much fun together.
Oh my goodness even looking into that tight spot makes my breath catch. I rather deal with the heights than tight spaces! LOL Really though is there like a hammock area one can lay in while the rest of the family enjoys this?
This looks like so much fun. I would totally try something like this with the kids. I wonder how much coordination is needed to do this?
OK now this looks like such a fun place to go to. I remember trying rock climbing once and hands up I wasn’t very good at it, but if I could I would try it again.
Despite not doing sport climbing as a sport I tried it and found myself falling in love with it! Exciting!
How fun!! I’ve been dying to try the one right near my house so this really motivated me π
Wow! My kids would love this place! I don’t handle heights very well though so I’ll leave the climbing and cave exploring to them LOL. Sure they would have a blast at the Albany Indoor Rock Gym.
It’s been forever since I’ve enjoyed some indoor rock climbing and your post has inspired me to get back into it! It’s tough work but so much fun and I love the sense of accomplishment when I reach the top. π
Rock climbing is the bomb. I even did it once…and it wasn’t a pretty sight, but the kids had fun.
I tried rock climbing before because it looked so fun, but the truth is, it is pretty difficult thing to do. You have to be fit to be able to do it.
This such a nerve-wracking, tiring yet fun and exciting thing to do with your kids! Hope you had tons of fun! This is such a cool post!
How much fun is that! I have not been rock climbing in years. I took Rock Climbing for a Gym credit in college and loved it… The kiddos look like they are really enjoying themselves.. Looks like the perfect family activity
I have never done this before although there has been a rock climbing place here forever. It seems like something that would be really fun.
I rock climbed once and I wont lie I freaked all the way out. I might try it again in the future!
What a fun way to spend some time. I’d love to visit the rock gym too. We have time coming up with the holiday break soon.
Man, I always get super envious of people who
Do this. Donβt laugh but Iβm terrified of ripping my nails off the nail bed ( super long nails). For kids I think this is an amazing way to get all the energy out and feel a rush while getting fit!
That looks like a fun time, we like to go climbing π
I have never attempted a rock gym before but it looks like it would be so fun. I think it would also be quite challenging but worth it!
This looks like such an amazing place! I have never been rock-climbing, but I bet my husband would totally try this!
What a cool place to visit. I don’t know if I could do this now, but I sure would have had fun there when I was young!
