Something you may not have considered is the option of an alternative to disposable pads and tampons – with the Sckoon Cup! This is a simple way to make your life a lot easier, plus you can be eco-friendly, healthier, and more!
Menstrual cups have been around for quite some time, but you may have heard of them more recently. This little cup is all you need instead of disposables.
One of the reasons I love my Sckoon is that there are so many chemicals associated with most disposable menstrual products. Aside from not having to worry about any chemicals, another great thing about the Sckoon Cup is that you can wear it for up to 12 hours – no worry about Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). I never considered using tampons overnight, so it is a luxury to have the protection of the Sckoon Cup, whether it is overnight or during the day.
It is fantastic to get rid of disposables, because for one it is more eco-friendly, but another because the Sckoon takes up far less space. Here’s what my stash of products usually looks like, and this is only a portion of what I have taking up space in the bathroom cabinets.
Just think, you can replace all that with one little Sckoon cup.
We love going hiking and camping, and our family is very active. I love that when we travel or go camping, all I need to pack is my Sckoon – not a whole bunch of supplies. I also don’t have to worry about disposal. It is discreet and easy to carry, especially if you aren’t quite sure when your cycle is going to start. It fits easily – and discreetly – in my bag.
The Sckoon Cup is made in the USA, and is made out of medical-grade silicone, which is latex-free, plastic-free and BPA-free. It will last you up to two years, so it quickly pays itself back, and then more. There are two sizes to choose from, as well as a great selection of colors!
Sckoon Cups are easy to use. Don’t let these cups intimidate you. I literally had a menstrual cup sit in my bathroom drawer for two years before I decided I was willing to try it. This is a product that can change your life. I had heard such great things, but I was scared, maybe that it would get stuck or that it would be uncomfortable. Honestly, I tried this once and never looked back.
The Sckoon Cup is made from extremely soft silicone and is comfortable – once it is in place I don’t even notice it. There are several ways to fold it, but essentially you use it just the way you would with a tampon. You can find detailed instructions on the Sckoon website as well as in the booklet that comes with the Sckoon Cup.
I was nervous the first time I tried a menstrual cup, but after using it just one time, my fears had dissipated and I all I could think about was how this little cup was revolutionizing my life. It does take a few times to figure out what works best for you, but it is a very simple process. My biggest fear was that the cup would get lost and I wouldn’t be able to remove it, but you simply pinch the textured bottom of the cup, break the seal, and remove. Just a few times of doing this and I was a pro at it, and it has never spilled or made a mess. You should not pull on the stem to remove the cup, but it does offer a guide as far as figuring out the cup’s position. The stem is not uncomfortable at all, which surprised me, because I had tried another cup where I had to completely cut off the stem to make it bearable, and even then, the cup was so much firmer than the Sckoon that it was still uncomfortable.
I find that overall, there is far less thought needed for the Sckoon cup than compared to disposable products. With the Sckoon cup, I don’t have to be so careful about counting hours or constantly changing.
This little product has made my life a lot easier. I think a whole lot less about my cycles. I don’t have the anxieties I had before – no more worrying about the toxins in disposables, no more worrying about TSS, or keeping up with constant changes. I can carry this in my purse any time, should my cycle begin when I was otherwise unprepared. I don’t have to keep an entire cabinet stocked with supplies, no more emergency trips to the store. I know I’ve had to find stores in unfamiliar cities (even out of the country) to try to find menstrual products. No more waste, no more fuss!
