I have purchased chia drinks before, and even drinks with basil seeds. As a huge chia seed fan, it makes sense to make my own drinks, since I can choose just what goes into my beverages. I recently tried making chia pudding and loved it, so I figured why not try making a drink too!
Chia seeds have been used for a long time because of the benefits (like energy) that they have to offer. These little seeds are absolutely packed with all kinds of nutrients. They are the richest whole food source of Omega-3 (ALA) (as a vegetarian family, we love that!), they have lots of fiber and help with digestion, and are a great source of antioxidants, magnesium, iron, and much more. I could keep going on and on – these little seeds are a great way to get extra nutritional benefits.
Chia drinks are an easy way to get a good serving of these benefits. This recipe is so easy, you have an easy drink that you can even take on the go.
Ingredients
1/4 cup chia seeds – I use organic
1 cup water
Juice (approx. 1 cup)
Directions
I use a Mason jar, but you can use any kind of container to mix and store your chia seed mixture.
Combine the chia seeds and water. I shake my jar, but you can stir vigorously. This is just after a few minutes, but I allow this mix to sit overnight because the mixture will become very thick, and the chia seeds should absorb all the water.
Your mixture should be very thick once the chia seeds have soaked up the water. It should basically be a very gelatinous mixture.
Mix your chia seeds with approximately 1 cup of juice. You can add more, depending on the consistency you would like. With more juice, I find that I need to shake or mix my drink a little more often because the chia seed mix won’t be as thick and the chia seeds will start to sink, leaving just juice at the top.
I used a berry juice, but you can use whatever kind of juice you like. (Check out my chia apple cider drink here).
Shake or mix thoroughly to be sure you break up any clumps. Enjoy!
Do I use all the 1/4cup of seed to the one cup of juice? How long are the seed good for once you put then in water?
I’d give this a try to see if I like it. Normally chia seeds can freak me out a bit. But if they blend well with the drink, I’d be on board
I love chia seed drinks for energy for my exercise. I need to make this drink.
WOW! I love Chia seeds, looking forward to trying this.
I love it. I just purchased chia seeds and did not know what to do with them. This is very timely
I love chia seeds. I always add them to my oatmeal breakfast. Now I can make chia seed drinks too.
I would definitely enjoy this drink. We all could use energy (well at least I know I could use it). I also enjoy the juice so it is a win-win for me. Thank you for sharing this easy recipe.
I am a big fan of chia but I never thought to drink them. I am glad to see that yours stay rather small, too. I could never get the fat ones shown by some bloggers.
I used to have a huge container of Chia Seeds so I have to look and see if they are still good. Otherwise, I will have to buy some to make this delicious-looking drink.
Wow! This look so good and absolutely perfect I would really love to try this one!
I would really love to try this drink! This is such a really easy recipe thanks for sharing this!
I drink a cup of water with chia seeds every day but I never thought to add juice to it! I am so trying this tomorrow!
I heard a lot of good benefits of this drink. My husband loves adding chia seed on his smoothies.
