We try to be as eco-friendly in our daily life, and that includes for when we travel as well. No matter what we are doing or where we are, it is nice to think of ways to be eco-friendly. These are some ways that we incorporate green living into our travels.

Reusable Bottles
I use reusable bottles as much as possible anyway, so it makes sense that I also travel with my water bottle. Sometimes we have to buy bottled water (such as in Mexico), but we try to buy larger jugs and refill our reusable water bottles as we go. If you are going to a resort, many people bring stainless insulated mugs for their drinks.
Reusable cutlery & straws
Some places, such as parts of Mexico, no longer allow traditional straws. Reusable straws are a great way to have an alternative to disposable items. You can bring along your own straws and cutlery if you are looking for a way to have a reusable option.
Bags
Plastic bags are banned in many places, including my home state of New York, so this comes easily to me. I always pack reusable bags, even when I travel out of town. It makes it easier to shop and carry things with reusable bags, versus plastic bags.
Reef-safe sunscreen
Many places require a reef-safe sunscreen, and even if they don’t, it is a great way to help prevent further damage to the environment. Many beaches and swimming areas will not allow you to use traditional sunscreen.
In addition, reef-safe sunscreens have less chemicals, and are therefore better for you. Check out my Tips for Traveling with Reef Safe Sunscreen.
Support local
Shopping local is ecofriendly because it supports local products and vendors – instead of buying things that have an enormous carbon footprint. Most big box stores have items that are shipped from a distance. Or, for example, our grocery store in New York has fruit from Peru, Chile, and Mexico. It is better to purchase things that are locally made or grown.
Reusable Makeup Wipes & Pads
One of my favorite reusable products are reusable makeup pads or reusable makeup wipes. No worries about staining hotel towels with makeup, and no disposable products. Plus, cloth makeup wipes do not contain any chemicals, and remove makeup very efficiently without needing extra products. Another bonus is not having to travel with extra liquids, such as makeup remover.
I use a reusable cold insulated cup on a daily basis.
I’ll have to give the make up wipes a try next time I wear makeup. I only wear it on special occasions.
I love getting reusable items. We have bottles that we take with us whenever we travel. They come in handy!
I have a reusable makeup wipe, and it has been a total game-changer to my beauty routine.
I love these tips for eco-friendly traveling and living! I always try to choose local produce when I can.
Yes to reusables! I always bring a water bottle and coffee mug when I travel.
We practice much of that already but we didn’t know about reef safe sunscreen. Headed to Florida in October so this would be a good time to bring it.
I try to use as many eco-friendly products as possible at home and when I travel. We have reusable bottles, bags and straws too.
I love that more portable eco-friendly options are becoming easily available to us!
Love these travel products. I always prefer to support local and I love to have more and more reusable items
Smart to take those makeup removers to the hotel. I use them at home but haven’t thought to take them on trips (giving myself the ‘doh.’).
These products are great! I use reusable water bottles and straws. I need to check out reef-safe sunscreens now.
Love these items, anything that is green and will help save our planet. Thank you!
I love reusable water bottles and I have some like these. I love taking them with me on hikes!
We use reusable water bottles and we always carry them with us when we travel domestically or internationally. We use reusable bags as well.
These are so fanatstic! I always try to find a way to limit my carbon footprint, ESPECIALLY when I travel.
It can be hard when we travel, but we are trying as a family to do what we can. We always bring our reusable water bottles and I reuse our plastic bags to hold toiletries until they fall apart since TSA doesn’t like when you use something different.
These are all great products. We need to be more eco-friendly with the products we use at home and when traveling. I always support the locals every time I travel
Love these products. I will try to keep these in mind and use them on my next travels. Reusable plastic bags and water bottles are a good way to start.
We recently bought some stainless steel reusable straws. I wanted to cut down on waste from the paper ones we have been using. Such a great idea.
I am all in for the reusable bottles and straws! It’s so nerve-wrecking finding so many empty plastic bottles and straws thrown around the place.
These are some great suggestions and look like amazing products! I have 3 more trips this year, so I will need to try them!
Wonderful suggestions covering almost everything, I have never used reusable wipes and love to try them out especially since they are ecofriendly.
I just started using Raw Elements! I love that it’s travel-friendly and doesn’t count as a liquid.
Okay, I’m learning more about those products and I may buy one.
All of these products are wonderful for travel and we even use some in my home everyday. My daughter likes the reusable straws also.
My husband and I always try to find ways of being more eco friendly!
Yes to everything reusable! Also good point about ocean safe suncreams – thankfully more and more brands and consumers are becoming more aware of this,
Thank you! So hard to remain low plastic when travelling East Asia though. Everything is packaged!
