Staying at home isn’t always the easiest thing to do. Even when you’re someone that generally likes to be at home, there’s nothing like realizing that you can’t do something that makes you want to. Yet, if you know that you really do need to stay in, due to health or financial reasons, it’s nice to be able to make things more enjoyable for yourself. Even if you have a usual routine for your day-to-day life – something can feel a little off about it. Suddenly, you’re less productive and a lot more touchy. So, it’s safe to say that you’re going to want to do something about that.
This is the point where you’re going to want to work out exactly what you can do to survive staying at home. Luckily for us all, there are lots of different ideas. The most important thing that you need to do here, is work on your mindset. Having an open mind is the one thing that is going to help you to get through this. After all, not only do you have your enjoyment to consider, but your mental health too. So, let’s take a look at some of the things you can do to survive staying at home.
- Get Your Mind Behind It
To start with, you’re going to want to make sure that your mind is really in the right place. Because if you’re scared or worried or worked up, it could be that you’re not really ready to make the most of this. Instead, you need to change your mindset. Don’t be so stressed or sad that you’re stuck at home. Instead, embrace it. Choosing to get behind what’s going on and not resisting it is the key to making this work.
- Stay Positive
When you’re ready to make the most of the time you have inside, the next thing that you need to do is stay positive. As much as you may not realize it, positivity is so important. It can make everyday feel special – which matters when everyday feels the same. So, as much as you can, try to be as positive as possible. It’s what’ll make this all work.

- Get Some Sleep
The next thing that’s going to help you here, is sleep. If you want to have a good day and enjoy more productivity, it starts with good sleep. And, as easy as this can be hard to find, it’s important to try and establish a healthy sleeping routine. Before you know it, you’ll have more energy.
- Wake Up Early
Now, the next thing that you’re going to want to do here is get up and get on. Sometimes, you want to snooze when you’re tired – but that only sets the day up for a slow start. Instead, when you choose to wake up early, you’ll find that you have a lot more energy to get things done. And it’ll make your day at home feel a lot more special.
- Exercise
As much as you might be staying home, you still need to be exercising. Exercise is essential for your happiness as well as your health – it can also help you to sleep better. Home exercise routines can be perfect here. Quick, easy, and effective. But, don’t forget about the outside world too. You can definitely still head outside for a walk and fresh air, or workout in the garden to feel good.
- Get Comfortable
At first, when you’re home all of the time, you may want to get up and get dressed so that you feel as if you have some kind of structure. And wearing formal clothes can make you feel like you’re in business mode. But they’re not comfortable. Instead, opting to turn to your favourite activewear manufacturer to create your own signature uniform. Whether you create a line for your business interests or for yourself, you will find that this makes being at home so much better.
- Have A Routine
But, don’t let yourself get too comfortable – instead, you need to make sure that you have some kind of routine. Sure, let yourself have a day or two to enjoy the lack of pressure or purpose – but not for too long. It’s much more important for you to think about building a routine. It might not be for long, and it may not be right, but creating some kind of routine can help your mental health when you’re in all of the time.
- Get Outside
Even if you have to stay in, make sure that you get outside. Spending some time in the garden – even if it’s just to have a coffee or each lunch, it can be important. Feeling the sun on your face can boost your mood and make things a lot easier.

- Eat Well
As tempting as it can be to eat junk, you’ll want to make sure that you’re trying to have a balanced diet. Eating the right nutrients can be so important to helping you feel good and be happy and healthy.
- Take Breaks
If you’re trying to work through the day or homeschool all day, you may find that it just doesn’t work out. We all need to take breaks. In fact, taking breaks can often be the key to success. So don’t let yourself struggle or feel like you’re not doing well if you rest a little. You may find that stopping and changing up your activity can help you to succeed.
- Play Games
This might be one that you’re already done with, but playing games can be a lot of fun. It may be that you want to try a range of family board games, or maybe even that you want to play cards? Just think of the games that can keep you entertained. Sure, computer games can be fun, but even something like charades can be so much better at a time like this.
- Get Everyone Involved
From here, you’re going to want to make sure that you try to do different things that the kids can enjoy too. Trying to do everything alone could get a little old real fast. Plus, the kids are likely to be bored too. And so, it’s nice to try and think about what you can do to get them all involved. Cooking with the kids can be perfect. Getting them involved is a lot of fun and lets you bond together too.
- Let Go Of The Pressure
Finally, you’re going to want to make sure that you really aim to let go of the pressure that you’re putting on yourself. It’s easy to want to be productive or to try and make the most of your day, it can end badly. You might get stressed if things don’t go to plan. So, try to let go of expectations. When you just see what happens, you have a much better chance of enjoying your day.
And that’s all there is to it. At first, it can really seem as if you’re going to feel stuck and suffocated. But there are so many different things that you can do to try and ride this out. Maybe you want to give each of them a go and see how you get on? Or just pick out the things that you know work? Either way, before long, you’re going to have a routine that works best for you.
These are all great ways to make the most out of our new normal! Thank you for this!
So much good advice! I definitely have been learning regular exercise, having a simple daily routine, and taking the pressure off have helped my overall attitude about being stuck at home.
I don’t know if I’m an extrovert or an introvert, but I’d venture to say maybe somewhere in the middle maybe? I love going out, but I love staying home too. There’s always so much to do at home I feel like. I enjoyed this post, it does get one more in the mood to be home!
Thank you for sharing. I have an 8-year-old & a newborn I am scared to get them exposed. We have been in our backyard and play board games
We’ve been doing pretty well, but we really need a more consistent routine!
Staying positive has been the harder one for me but I’ve been trying.
