They say that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. You probably have several items taking up space around your house that others could put to good use. This could be anything from a stack of old books to used furniture. Rather than simply throwing these items out, donate them to a local charity that will appreciate your discarded things. They will be happy to receive your unwanted pieces, and you will enjoy a decluttered home.
Donate the Books You Have Read
While there are a few books that you will want to keep because they are special, you more than likely have stacks of reading materials that you will never look at again. Consider donating the books you have already read to your local library. They will appreciate the offer, and you can finally clear out the bookshelf for new volumes.
Give Large Items to Charity
Larger items can be harder to get rid of, but with a little research, you can easily find someone in need of your pre-owned pieces. College students are always in search of free furniture that they can use in their dorm room. You can even find charities like donate piano NYC who can use donations to encourage a love of music in others. There are even charities looking for used cars and boats.
Pass the Clothing You Don’t Wear on to Others
Is your closet filled with outfits you no longer wear? What might seem old to you could be new and exciting to someone else. For example, formal dresses are often only worn once. Sell them in a consignment shop or donate them to a thrift store.
By donating used books to a library, offering large items to those in need, and passing clothing you no longer wear on to others, you will reduce the clutter within your home. It will also help people out by giving them the items they might not otherwise be able to afford. Everyone comes out a winner.
Every few months we try to go through out things and find things to donate. I love letting the children pick out toys they want to donate to someone that might need toys more than they do.
We follow a “one in, one out” policy for clothes and toys in my home, so we end up donating a lot. It really does make us feel good to know that someone else will use things we no longer find valuable. (And a relatively clutter-free home is definitely a bonus!)
This is a great reminder for a lot of us! I started decluttering after Christmas and I can’t believe how much stuff I was able to donate.
I am all for giving stuff away, but I also want to make a little money off things I paid hard earned money for. I’ll never understand why people just trash stuff. Sell, then donate! Never throw away.
I love this! I love to donate our old toys and baby clothes for those who need it.
