Tip for this week: Brown Bag Popcorn
Did you know you can make your own microwave popcorn?  All you need is…
  1. A brown paper bag
  2. Popcorn
  3. A Microwave
  4. Butter (we use Smart Balance) – optional
  1. Place aprox. 1 rounded tablespoon of popcorn into a paper bag.
  2. Fold the top of the bag down 2 times, then fold in the top corners as shown in the photo.
  3. Place bag in the microwave for aprox. 2.5 minutes.  (This process is just like buy-at-the-store popcorn, so use your judgment like you would there.
  4. Remove bag from microwave (Careful!  It will be HOT!).  Add butter (not much, just enough to give it a little flavor and saltiness), close bag and shake.
  5. Serve in a bowl, or use the bag to serve it in (just cut off the top few inches for easier access).

My boys LOVE this snack because they each get their own bag – no one to share with! It’s healthy and EASY!

  1. 1

Great tip! This is how I make my popcorn at home all the time! I love it because it’s easy to make and healthier than regular microwave popcorn.

  2. 2

Oh wow!!!! I love this!!! We are on a very small budget (a recent decision for us) for food and can no longer afford to buy prepared/processed snack food. My boys are going to LOVE THIS!!! They both LOVE popcorn and have been looking at me with pitiful eyes asking for it lately!!!

    Thank you SO much!!!

By the way…I shared this article on my facebook page!

This is a great idea! I’m visiting from Mailbox Monday. I signed up to be a new email subscriber.

  4. 4

I love brown bag popcorn. Easy and you control the ingredients.

  5. 5

I never thought of doing this. We love popcorn and a lot of times I dont buy it because the micro popcorn costs alot and I hear the plastic inside the bags isnt health for us either. So I am going to start doing it this way – thanks so much
