Most of us don’t have enough room in our homes and creating a functional yet organised bedroom for the little ones can be a challenge. In this article, we will discuss how to get around those challenges so you can have a space that is suitable for your little ones. We will discuss Bunk Beds, Self Storage and other solutions that can help.

Functional furniture

To start you need to look at what furniture you have and if you need to replace it to make the space more useful. If for example, you have a large bed and a computer desk then you may want to consider combining them both.

Adeel UL-Haq from bedroom company Bunk Beds says “Consider getting a gaming bed or bunk beds if you have more than one child, this can free up some floor space so that you have room to do more.”

“By stacking two beds you open up room for play and other activities. Modern bunk beds also come with built-in drawers, shelves and even desk units. If you want to save money, you could also consider bunk beds that can be detached so when your children grow they can have single beds that can be separated, just in case they want more space.”

Storage Solutions

Keeping your child’s bedroom clutter-free is a challenge but you can tackle that challenge by having plenty of storage solutions. Think of beds that have built-in furniture or even the stackable shelves that you can get from Ikea.

If you have room you may also want to consider under-the-bed storage containers, you can purchase these for cheap and they can be used to house toys, blankets and everything else in between.

A good tip is to keep items that are seasonal here as you don’t need to use them as often, otherwise getting items out of storage boxes when you need them is going to become difficult.

Hiring a storage unit

Sometimes even the best furniture with built-in storage isn’t enough and if your home is too small and you have run out of space you only have a few options. Option A is to buy a new home and move all of your furniture and goods to this new home. This can be expensive, time-consuming and overall too stressful.

Option B is to hire a storage unit.

A storage unit doesn’t have to cost the world and there are often companies that have different sized units for hire depending on your needs. If you only need storage for a child’s room then it shouldn’t be too expensive at all.

Scott Evans owner of Cardiff-based Pink Storage says “Check with your storage company to see what offers they have and if they do smaller units, some storage companies may not advertise their smaller units but quite often they will have some.”

“You also want to check if you have to sign any long-term deals because you never know when your situation will change, always read the small print.”

Other tips for keeping your children’s bedroom clean

Toys, toys, toys that’s what our children’s bedrooms are filled with, and one way of keeping the clutter down is to rotate them. You can do this by keeping one basket of toys out and then keeping the other toys in storage in another room such as the attic.

When your child has had enough of these toys you can then swap them around, this way you keep the clutter down but you also allow your child not to be overwhelmed.

Having fewer toys out also encourages creativity, children have to use their imagination and play with what they have rather than jumping from toy to toy. For parents, a smaller number of toys out also means that less time is spent cleaning up and overall makes your life easier to maintain a tidy room.

Having fewer toys on the show also teaches your children organization and how to get involved in selecting which toys to rotate in and out. For parents, if you notice your children always rotate out certain toys it could be a sign that you can get rid of this toy.

When storing your rotated toys you can use storage bins or boxes and then keep these toys out of sight in a garage, shed or attic. Using a storage box will keep the dust away so your children’s toys are fresh when they want to play with them next.

My advice would be to rotate toys in and out every 2-4 weeks, this way things are kept fresh.
