Have a big declutter

Over years you can soon accumulate a lot of items such as books, clothes and accessories. It can be easy to hoard these things by thinking that you might need them one day, when in actuality if you haven’t used them in the past few years or months you never will. Try and have a big declutter and only pack items that you think you will use or need in your new home. You can do it gradually, a room at a time and sort into keep, maybe and throw piles.

Sort out all the niggly jobs

As time passes, things can go wrong in your home that you might be able to turn a blind eye to, but won’t help your house to sell. Take time to touch up the paintwork and to fix any loose screws or handles on cupboards and doors. Make sure that you replace any really old and tired items such as old blinds or curtains that might hinder a sale. Don’t spend a fortune on this, but make sure it is done properly.

Tidy up the exterior of your house

The exterior of your home is the first part that potential buyers will see and therefore you want to make sure it looks as good as possible. Try to have seamless gutters, sort out your pointing and re-paint your garden fence. You could plant some flowers, or de-weed your current flower beds and repaint any of the exterior that is looking a bit weathered. Clean up your windows and give your front door a freshen up too.

Give your house a deep clean

Having a tidy house can make a huge difference to how well it sells and how much money that you get for it. Before the first viewings come round, give it a really deep clean from top to toe, ensuring it is as sparkling as possible. Buy some reed diffusers to ensure it smells nice and dust all of the tiny nooks and crannies that you might normally miss out on. Polish the floors and clean the insides of cupboards to maximise the look of space inside them.
