I love finding new music for my kids, and I stumbled upon “Strawberry Wind” this spring, a lovely album from Jessie Baylin.  While this is Baylin’s 4th album, we had not heard her music until recently.

Jessie Baylin

Baylin is a a Nashville based songwriter, and also a mother of two young children.  It is nice to find albums from moms, especially knowing that they draw inspiration from their experience as a parent.  I found Baylin’s motherhood struggles relatable, as she had trouble finding the time for producing an album.  As a busy mom myself, I can absolutely understand that struggle, and am impressed at her ability to create an album with little ones keeping her busy.  Baylin found that she had an outpouring of creativity, and the album was born!

Strawberry Wind

Strawberry Wind has a great kind of “vintage” feel to it.  She talks about the first track, “Dream Catcher,” as a throwback ’60s songstresses as Dusty Springfield and Nico. Listening to the album, it all has that kind of vibe.  It is no surprise that she is inspired by The Beatles, John Lennon, Carole King, and others from that era of music.

This album has a nice easy-listening type vibe, being both laid-back but leaves you feeling good.  It is a nice change of pace from our usual children’s music, and while it has good energy, it also has a dreamy and relaxing quality to it.
