If all-white minimalist kitchens make you yawn, you’re not alone. While the stark white, neutral interior design trend was interesting, we’re all glad it’s over.

Your life isn’t boring, so why should your kitchen be?

Some homeowners stay away from using color because of the price tag some colorful trends come with. But, we’re here to tell you that you can create a colorful kitchen oasis without breaking the bank.

Kitchen Home

Give your kitchen the colorful upgrade it deserves without spending a fortune. Keep reading to find out how.

1. Bold Tiles

The backsplash is an easy and fun way to add some personality to your kitchen. Whether you’re interested in dipping your toes into the world of color or want to cannonball in. There’s a tile that will meet you where you are.

For a baby step into color, choose a tile that maintains your neutral tones but has an accent color. It could still be a white subway tile, but perhaps it has a navy-blue border instead of black or white. You could use a navy-blue grout color, too.

Or, go all out with stunning yellow tiles or electrifying blue. Experiment with the shape of the tiles and even the cohesion. Mixing and matching colored tiles could be the next big thing in design.

2. Colorful Appliances

Remember those avocado-green appliances of the seventies? You’ll likely wish you kept yours since they’re coming back in style!

Colorful appliances make a major statement in an otherwise neutral kitchen. Your oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, and even your toaster come in a variety of colors.

Consider a color that ties in the design throughout the rest of your home. If you enjoy bright, bold red accents, take the plunge and get red appliances.

The price tag of brand-new appliances can be hefty. So, keep an eye on online marketplaces and estate sales to snag a deal.

3. Painted Cabinets

One of the most cost-effective tricks in design is throwing on a coat of paint. No matter what you’re painting, a change of color instantly upgrades it.

In the kitchen, replacing your cheap cabinets could be costly. Instead, give them a fresh coat of paint in a fun new color.

Consider the trend of going dark on the bottom cabinets and lighter on the top ones. Deep emerald green on the bottom cabinets paired with sage green top cabinets would be stunning.

Not a fan of painting? You can hire professional cabinet painters quite affordably.

4. Updated Dishware

You don’t have to change any of your kitchen’s structures or furnishings to make a change. Simply update the elements you use every day: your dishware.

Most people use an all-white dishware set because it’s simple and doesn’t distract from the food. But, colored dishes can be just as simple and make the meal on them look great.

Consider pale yellow, orange, or baby blue dishware. And, embrace the door-free, open cabinetry trend. This way, your dishware is always visible and so is the splash of color it brings.

5. Kitchen Foliage

Greenery has been a huge interior and exterior design trend over the past few years. Not only do plants look stunning, but they keep the air clean.

In your kitchen, add plants to different corners and surfaces.

Place large plants, like ferns, on top of the kitchen cabinets. Put succulents in trendy terrariums in the corners of your countertops.

If you enjoy cooking with herbs and spices, why not grow your own? Plant a row of herbs in a pot on your kitchen windowsill for a splash of green and convenient ingredient sourcing.

6. Bright Breakfast Nook

Breakfast nooks are cozy, closed off sections of a kitchen where your family can gather to eat meals. Often, they use benches or banquet seating.

Rather than using neutral fabric upholstery for your benches, go bold. Here’s your chance to choose an energetic, loud fabric that isn’t going to be the focal point of the room.

Adding color to seats is the perfect way to accent your kitchen because it doesn’t overwhelm your other colors. Seats are lower in your field of vision and thus, colorful ones don’t feel overpowering.

7. Eclectic Accessories

Do you have a quirky, fun personality? Then your kitchen should, too!

Whenever you find an interesting, eclectic piece of décor, place it in your kitchen. For example, a bright red elephant statue. Or, a decorative bowl with cats on it.

These unexpected elements give your kitchen character and personality. You can place them inside the cupboards, on top of the cabinet, in the fridge, and on the windowsills.

You can use interesting art pieces in this way, too. If you find a gorgeous piece of art in bright colors, hang it above your dining table. Use it as inspiration to match your other accent pieces to.

8. Fruity Centerpieces

Every kitchen island needs a centerpiece. So does every dining table. If you’re on a budget, use what you already have.

Fruit.

Fruits come in all sorts of different colors. You don’t have to stick to just yellow bananas or red apples. Organize a bowl of all different fruits and even some vegetables.

Or, as the seasons change, change your centerpiece accordingly. Use tropical fruit and coconut shells in the summer. In the fall, use pumpkins, gourds, and squash.

If your family doesn’t consume a lot of fruit, you can still use this décor idea. Simply buy some fake fruit from a secondhand store or online. Make sure you dust them regularly so the color stays vibrant.
