When we moved to our first house, creating the perfect home for a family was our priority. One thing is making sure that our home is equipped with safety precautions. Fire safety is an important thing to us. For years, we have involved our kids in fire safety events.

October is Fire Safety month, and we always attend open houses at the local firehouses and are lucky to know several of the volunteer firefighters (some of which are neighbors!). We even had a fun neighborhood fire safety event recently – which, needless to say, was memorable!

It is so important to educate our kids about fire safety, so that they have the information they need in the event of an emergency. Whether we go to the firehouse for an event or a community event about fire safety, I know that my kids are picking up on information every time.

Not only do we promote fire safety through attending events, we also work to make sure our kids have practical experiences that will help them. For example, learning to cook safely, and knowing things like to not put water on a grease fire and instead use a fire extinguisher. Since cooking equipment is a top cause of home fires, we make sure that there is a good smoke alarm near the kitchen as well as a fire extinguisher nearby.

For our home, it is a priority that we purchase quality safety devices, and Kidde products are a perfect fit for us, as one of the world’s largest manufacturers of fire safety products.  Kidde has a great line of products, like smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, and fire extinguishers.  Their products are easy to find and install in your home.

With October being National Fire Prevention Month, it is a good reminder to make sure that your home is safe and equipped with all of the devices you need to keep your family safe. In our house, we have fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide alarms, and smoke alarms. We have relied on the Kidde line of products over the years, and will continue to do so.

Not only do I make sure we have Kidde fire safety products, but I use this month as a chance to make sure that all of our devices are up-to-date and working. Plus, it doesn’t hurt to get additional items – for example, this year I am making sure that we have more carbon monoxide alarms.

It is easy to find Kidde Fire Safety essentials at stores like The Home Depot or Walmart. I encourage you to use October as a reminder to make sure that your home is equipped with Kidde products and that your family not only has an escape plan, but has practiced it (as less than half of Americans have actually practiced a plan).
