As you read the title of this article, you might think that we have misspelled “CBD.” However, CBD is only one of over 120 different cannabinoids that are found in the Hemp plant. Everyone knows about THC and CBD, but not a lot of people know about CBG, more properly known as Cannabigerol. Because it is much less well-known, it can be hard to find high-quality CBG hemp flowers. With that in mind, let’s discuss the procurement and smoking of this new Cannabinoid treat.

What Is Cannabigerol?

Cannabigerol might be described as the father of both THC and CBD. Like a stem cell, CBG is readily converted into other sources. By the time the plant reaches its full growth, most of its CBG will have been converted into THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids.

This might make you think that it’s a good idea to harvest immature plants for their CBG content, but that probably won’t work. The CBG is converted into other cannabinoids at a high rate, meaning that there will never be a large enough concentration at one time. However, there is always a certain amount of CBG that remains unconverted.

Why Use CBG?

Based on the available evidence, it would seem that CBG has medicinal effects that are similar to those gained from other cannabinoids. Since this substance is the source molecule for both THC and CBD, that shouldn’t be surprising to anyone. Let’s examine some of the benefits, focusing only on those that have been proven.

First, we might look at this study, which was conducted on mice. In an effort to find new medications for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome, researchers induced colitis (bowel trauma) in a group of laboratory mice and then treated it with CBG. The results must have been pretty good because the authors recommended that CBG be considered for use in human subjects.

More interestingly, CBG seems to have anti-cancer properties as well. For instance, this study found that a dose of CBG inhibited the growth of colon cancer cells. As before, the conclusions are positive and optimistic.

CBG inhibits the growth of cancer cells by blocking the receptors with which they would normally interact. It basically closes off the port, leaving the carcinogenic cells to wither and die. In a similar manner, this study found that it helped to protect the brain from certain degenerative conditions like Huntington’s Disease.

How To Find Good CBG Hemp Flowers

At this time, you probably won’t have a lot of variety from which to choose. There just aren’t a whole lot of people supplying CBG flower. Not only that, but some of these high-CBG strains have only been created recently. That means that the market for this stuff has not yet been fully established. Still, you should be able to find some with a little hunting.

We would recommend online vendors such as Mr Hemp Flower, just because they are likely to be your only realistic source. Of course, you don’t want to just drop your money at the first thing you see. When you are thinking about buying from a particular company, you should see the first purchase as a test run. As such, you should start by purchasing a small quantity.

Before you even buy a sample, however, you should always do your homework. See if there are any negative reports on the internet about that company. Find out how long they have been in business and who owns them. Then, your next step should be to investigate the particular strain of Hemp flowers that you are buying.

As we said earlier, most strains of Cannabis have very low levels of CBG (2% is considered to be a high level). That being said, there are certain strains that are selectively cultivated for higher CBG content. Examples of high-CBG strains would include:

  • White CBG
  • Panakeia
  • Stem Cell
  • Jack Frost CBG
  • Superglue CBG
  • Lemon Cream Diesel

Your field of choices will not be all that wide, but they are definitely out there. Still, there is one little problem: CBG flowers tend to be significantly more expensive than most others. This is partly because it is a new trend, but also because it’s a specialty product. With fewer buyers, companies normally have to charge more for things like that. Otherwise, the production costs outweigh the profits.

One thing we would not advise you to do is to purchase CBG extracts. We’ve already told you that normal Cannabis contains (at best) about 2% CBG. Now, imagine how many pounds of bud you would need in order to obtain a pure extract! Hopefully, these prices will become lower in the future as high-CBG strains become more available.

Ways To Smoke CBG Hemp Flowers

You can smoke CBG flowers in a wide variety of ways, but you generally have three options: Papers, pipes, or vaping. You can put them in a standard rolling paper, or you can use a blunt if you are so inclined. Best rolling papers are easy to roll and crafted from natural fibers to deliver a slow and even burn. Cones are another option, and there are other specialty papers out there as well. As for pipes, we would generally recommend water pipes because they are a lot smoother and easier on your lungs.

As for vaping, you won’t be able to stick Hemp flowers in your standard vape pen. You will need to buy a vaporizer (most smoke shops will have them). These extract the cannabinoids (including CBG) from the flowers as water vapor. The flowers themselves will remain unburnt.

Conclusion

CBG represents an exciting new frontier in Cannabinoid medicine, as it is basically the master cannabinoid. While you might not be able to afford this kind of product on a regular basis, it is definitely worth a try. We will be keeping our eye on this trend in the future, and we will surely keep you updated as well. We hope that this article has made for fascinating reading and that you will come back to see us again.
