So many people assume that they know themselves, but you are not born knowing yourself, and you don’t automatically get to know yourself just by growing up and getting older. Getting to know yourself is something you have to make a conscious effort to do, but if you dedicate the time to do it, you will be much happier as you can express who you are. You will experience less inner conflict and will make better choices about everything. You are who you are, and the earlier you accept this and get on with it, the easier and happier you are. So, how can you use lockdown to do this?

Get to Know Your Personality

To really get to know who you are, you have to ask yourself a lot of questions, and right now, as you have the time and space to do this, then it’s as good a thing as any to spend your time doing. You need to spend time looking back at situations and asking yourself, “Why did I do that?” What are your characteristic traits? Who are you when you’re with your friends? What about when you’re with strangers? Who do you portray yourself as to the outside world? What are you really like on a good day as well as a bad day? How do you react to the world around you? Even if you don’t like the answers, that’s okay, but be honest with yourself.

Try new things

There is a limit on what you can do right now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t try new things. If you’re intrigued by something, perhaps it’s online dating, perhaps you want to explore your sexuality and can use a chatline (thechatlinenumbers.com/gay) to see what you think, or perhaps there are far simpler things like films you’ve never watched as you think you won’t like them or books you’ve never read, but people have recommended to you. You actually have the time to find out now, so use it.

Get to Know Your Body

How well do you know your body? How well do you know what you can do? Do you know your breathing, your abilities, your limits of balance, and flexibility? Use this time to challenge yourself, to try different breathing exercises, and really see what your body can do?

Get to Know your Dreams

Use the time to think about what you really want from life. Get to know the specifics and details of what you want. You might have always thought you wanted to something, but do you really? You may want to be an actor but think it’s too far out of your reach, but it’s not. If you do want to become an actor, ask yourself, do you want to be in plays? Or is it TV or movies? What do you love about acting? Why do you want to do it? How big a part of your life do you want it to be?

Get to Know your Likes and Dislikes

Knowing what you like is just as important as knowing what you dislike and knowing these simple things about yourself gives you a lot of confidence in who you are. Are you just going through life liking what’s popular and hiding the fact that you like something that’s considered uncool? Don’t do that, be true to yourself, and you’ll be far happier.
