Quechee State Park

We love camping in Vermont, but hadn’t been out to the Queechee Gorge area, so decided we would spend a weekend at the campground checking out the gorge.  The campground is easy to find, just off the main road in Hartford, VT.

We reserved well ahead of time for the “Ash” lean-to, which was very nice.  For lean-to sites, you generally need to reserve many months in advance.  Check-in at the contact station was quick and easy, and we paid for 2 bundles of campfire wood to be delivered to our campsite (which arrived right away).  Our site was very clean and well-maintained.

There are regular campsites and lean-to sites.  Since we booked so far in advance and we have kids, we went with the lean-to, which is a great way to avoid having to work around rain.  We fit two 2-person tents inside our lean-to, plus we were able to store our camp chairs and other gear out of the rain.

There are several bathrooms in the park, with showers as well (bring quarters).

They were well maintained and one of the buildings is brand new, which was nice.

The kids were excited to see that there were events going on at the park, and it is nice to have some activities for kids to do.

The kids made a sign for the campsite and some butterflies.

Of course, we also hiked down to the Quechee Gorge.  There is a trail for the general public that starts at the public Visitor’s Center on the main road, which is easy to walk to, or you can take the private campground trail right from inside the park.

The trail isn’t too long and comes out near the bottom of the gorge.  The kids had a blast exploring and jumping in.  Read more about the fun we had in the gorge here.

Across the street from the campground are some shops, pizza place, mini golf, a Quality inn, and more, so it is easy to find things to do while you are camping, both in and out of the park.
