Our family does a lot of traveling. We visit family when the kids are off from school, and we do a lot of camping. Sometimes we spend a full week away from home. Over the years, I have learned how to pack efficiently, and that means using packing cubes.
Dot&Dot offers a variety of packing cubes to fit every need, from multiple colors to multiple sizes. The medium cubes measure 13.5″ x 9.75″, by 3″, but you can get cubes that are larger or smaller. I chose the black, but it is also available in gray, green, purple, pink, red, dark blue, light blue, yellow and orange.
The way I use packing cubes is to divide everyone’s clothing. I assign each person 1-2 cubes, and it helps keep everyone’s clothes organized. I don’t always know what suitcase the cubes are going in, since the kids sometimes like to bring their own, or the cubes all end up in my rolling duffel.
Additionally, I don’t always know our sleeping arrangements where we are going, so when we arrive at our destination, I can distribute each person’s packing cubes next to their bed.
The top of the packing cube zips around 3 of the sides, and there are two zipper pulls – meaning that I don’t have to pull or search for one zipper all the way around the cube. Sounds like such a small thing, but I have learned that bags with long zippers need two zipper pulls!
Another thing about this product that I like is that there is a fabric handle on one side. When I am packing and unpacking, it makes it easy to carry the cubes around as I am trying to wrangle various pieces of luggage.
There is a mesh panel on the front of the cubes. Not only does this make it easy to see what is inside, but it makes the bag breathable. It helps keep clothes fresher and allows the bag to compress easily.
The medium size is good for shorter trips, or perhaps accessories (socks, underwear, etc), or if you want to divide up things like tops and bottoms (e.g. just shirts in one cube, just bottoms in another). I would probably recommend a larger size for stuff like shirts and pants. In larger cubes, I generally stack about 5 shirts and several pair of pants, but the medium is better for smaller items or smaller amounts.
