My kids are always complaining that they are bored. That there is nothing to do. How we never have any crafts. Al despite the fact we have plenty of toys and games, and that my dining room is full of playdough, beads, coloring books, and more.
The reality is, they want something new and different. That’s where Surprise Ride comes in to help a parent like myself. It is a monthly subscription service for kids, packed full of activities and even a snack. All you need to do is order, and your kit arrives, ready for your child to dive in for a ‘surprise ride’!
If you haven’t heard of Surprise Ride, they were featured on Shark Tank last November, as well as the View, and are currently creating other exciting partnerships. My daughter is a very busy 2nd grader, and I knew this would be perfect for her!
Surprise Ride is a subscription service that sends kids ages 6-11 fun and educational hands-on activities that foster creativity and imagination! The company was started by two sisters Donna and Rosy, and they have been working hard to create a lasting impact on the lives of children, beyond the latest toys or technologies.
Every month is not only a different theme, but it can be anything from art to science to geography, so your child really won’t know what to expect when their box arrives. You can subscribe by the month, or pay for a certain number of months.
The box we received had a Native American Indian theme, and as you can see it had quite a variety of items. Each month is different, but contains supplies to create a project, a snack, and more.
My daughter was very excited to dive into her box and get started. The Surprise Ride box comes with an information sheet and instruction booklet with everything carefully packaged underneath.
The first craft we made was a dream catcher. I enjoyed working on this with my daughter, helping her to weave the string onto the loop and tie off the beads. She was really happy with the final product!
Another craft in the box was a drum. This one was a bit easier to do, and other than helping my daughter peel the backing off the double-sided tape, she did this one on her own.
I like that the kit has a variety of projects, some easier and others harder. In this case, giving my child a project she could do independently (the drum), and another that required a little more focus (the dream catcher). I also like that there were a good amount of supplies to complete the crafts. For example, there was extra tape, and what I felt was more than sufficient beads and stickers to decorate our projects.
Another item my daughter has enjoyed is her worry stone. We learned about the different animals printed on the rocks and their significance.
The box had an eagle whistle and a shaker as well. We all thought these were both really cute.
Another thing my daughter is still working on is the Native American Indian activity book. This cute little book is packed with a variety of things to color and to do. I liked that she has been working on the book here and there, and that it wasn’t something she finished right away and was able to save for later.
And of course, we all enjoyed trying the popcorn that arrived in the box, which I didn’t get a chance to take a picture of, because it was gone before I knew it! I had never seen a product like that before, and it was reminiscent of popcorn I bought from a roadside stand when I traveled through Ecuador. The best way to describe it is that it is ‘half’ popped.
Overall, my 7-year-old enjoyed her Surprise Ride, and even shared some of the activities with her little sister. I was happy to help and bond with her over some of the activities. I like that it is great for times like rainy days, or those days when your kids come home from school tired – yet they still want something to do and complain that they are bored. And what kid doesn’t like getting something special in the mail! Although we finished most of the box in one afternoon, my daughter learned some things and still enjoys doing things like her activity book.
