Kid’s Academy Educational Apps

My kids really love using the iPad.  However, it is a struggle to find a good balance between them playing games but also using it for educational purposes.  We were excited to check out some new apps from Kids Academy, especially to help my 4.5 year old prepare for Kindergarten.

Kids Academy offers lots of educational apps.  What better time to check them out than in the summertime, when I’m trying to help my daughter prepare for starting Kindergarten in the fall.  The free apps we tried had a variety of basic activities for kids to be able to learn a variety of skills.

Preschool and Kindergarten Learning Games (Free)

One of the most important skills that my daughter is working on is writing letters.  The preschool learning app allows her to see letters and trace them.

There are also easy mazes/shaped paths that kids can trace along, which helps them to develop fine motor control.  I like these kinds of activities in that they not only help with tracing, but I think also mentally focusing more, as this is the age I see my kids doing much better when coloring and trying to stay within the lines in the coloring book.

Preschool and Kindergarten Learning Kids Games (Free)

I think this is my daughter’s favorite game of the three we tried; she collects “fireflies” as she traces letters.

She also gets to see letters associated with words and sounds, such as “A is for alligator”, all which help her begin to learn how to read.

Bingo (Free)

The free version of the Kids Academy Bingo app is a very simple app, where my daughter can watch the Bingo song on the iPad.  It also plays out the letters on the bottom of the screen, and the graphics are cute and engaging.

Overall, my daughter thought these games were fun.  The Kids Academy apps have cute characters and fun music to help engage the kids in the different activities.  These are some great ways to get your little ones working on their preschool skills and prepare for Kindergarten too.
