On Cinco de Mayo, Grammy award-winning Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band released “Aqui, Alla”, a children’s Spanish album, and lots of fun whether or not your children speak Spanish!  The band is made up of Lucky Diaz and Alisha Gaddis, a married couple who has received numerous awards (in addition to their Latin Grammy!).

I wasn’t sure what to expect or how I would describe an album in another language.  However, we had lots of fun with this as soon as we listened to Aqui, Alla.  It has a unique sound (almost like old radio) and a fun, festive vibe.

My kids are a huge fan of the first song, “Viva La Pachanga”.  The first time I played this CD, they were all giggles throughout the song, and they still are every time we play it!  They enjoy the rest of the album too, but always request this song by name first.  I asked them why they love it and they said, just because!  It is high energy and lots of fun, so it goes to show that kids don’t need the songs to be in English to fully appreciate them!

And although I don’t speak Spanish, I learned that there is a lot of meaning behind this album.  Lucky shares his family’s dreams of freedom, equality and the hope of a better tomorrow, as his parents were immigrant farm workers.

This CD has 9 great songs:

1. Viva La Pachanga (feat. Flaco Jimenez)

2. Órale!

3. La Pequeña Araña

4. Cantaba La Rana

5. El Cucuy (feat. Ruben Ramos)

6. Tú Eres Mi Amor

7. Vamos a Contar (feat. Genevieve Goings)

8. Aqui, Alla

9. De Colores (feat. David Lee Garza)

One of the songs is a popular childhood song – see if you recognize it from this excerpt:

La pequeña araña
subió, subió, subió
vino la lluvia
y se la llevó

La pequeña araña
subió, subió, subió
vino la lluvia
y se la llevó

 Salió el sol
y todo se secó
Salió el sol

And the English translation:

The little spider,
Climbed up, climbed up, climbed up,
Down came the rain,
And washed the spider out.

Out came the sun,
And dried it all up,
Out came the sun

And the little spider climbed up

It’s really fun for my kids to The Itsy Bitsy Spider in Spanish.  I also recognize “De Colores”, which is a nice track to sing along with since I recognize the music.

This is such a fun, unique album the whole family can enjoy.  The music If you’re looking for something festive and different, check out Aqui, Alla!
