Sunny Sleevez Sun Protection

Sunny Sleevez Fairy

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Spring and summer are on their way, and I am beyond excited.  At the same time, I have to prepare myself.  In addition to being vigilant about sun protection, and both of my girls being very fair, my 4 year old has battled with eczema since she was a baby.  Over the years, I have fought to find just the right balance for her skin, but summers are tough.  She cries that spray-on sunscreens sting (because of the alcohol content in them).  Regular sunscreens usually have chemicals, fragrances, and other ingredients that irritate her skin.  Even natural sunscreens cause skin irritation, probably as a result of heat and sweat.  She ends up miserable, scratching all day.  When we go on summer vacation and I sleep next to her, I know she scratches all night too, making her that much more unhappy.

When I heard of Sunny Sleevez, I was excited.  For years I have been an advocate of things like sun hats and rash guards, and Sunny Sleevez provides that same fabric UV protection, by providing sleeves that easily slip on to protect your skin from the sun.

Sunny Sleevez

Sunny Sleevez was founded by Dashiel St. Damien, a mom who wanted a solution to the challenges of sun protection:

Sunny Sleevez are designed to provide instant, chemical-free, sun protection for arms and top of hands that you never have to reapply. They are made of lightweight 50+ SPF fabric and come in lots of different colors & cool designs.  Despite sales of sunscreen skyrocketing in recent years, skin cancer rates have continued to increase exponentially. Unfortunately, most of the damage occurs in childhood, so it is vital to protect children’s skin from birth.

Sunny Sleevez for kids uses a 50+UPF fabric and provides UVA & UVB protection!

Sunny Sleevez go on easily – you simply slide it on your child’s arms.  The fabric is smooth and comfortable, and I haven’t had any problems with it slipping, and my daughter has never complained about the sleeves bothering her.  In fact, after playing outside, she has worn these sleeves until bath time, in no rush to take them off.

Sunny Sleevez

There are so many reasons I love Sunny Sleevez:

~ I don’t have to slather my kids with sunscreen – you know, getting it all over your hands, and dealing with the resulting stickiness, sweatiness, and skin irritation.

~ And, I don’t have to worry about what I am putting on their skin.  No chemicals, nothing harmful that is being absorbed.

~ Timing is not an issue.  You know how it says to apply sunscreen a certain amount of time before sun exposure?  And then repeat regularly?  Maybe your kids get really sweaty and you’re not sure how effective their sunscreen is?  No worries with Sunny Sleevez.

~ I don’t have to lug around a bottle of sunscreen.  Maybe a bottle of sunscreen isn’t that big, but it is still one more messy thing to keep track of – I end up keeping a bottle in a baggie in the car or my purse- inevitably it leaks, the bottle is sticky, it runs out, etc.

~ If your kids complain about sunscreen, this is a great alternative!  No more chasing them down and rubbing their arms while they whine!

Sunny Sleevez

Sunny Sleevez come in a variety of colors, designs, and sizes, so you can find something for everyone – including adults.  You can get plain sleevez and designs for both boys and girls, from a giraffe to flames to paw prints.  They also sell other sun protection items, such as shrugs, scarves, and Sunny Beadz (which change color instantly in the sun to alert the user of  harmful UV rays).

I love this idea. You are right it is always hard to remember sunscreen or extra clothes. I can see myself getting multiples to leave around.
