Healthy Smoothies with Salba Chia Seeds (**GIVEAWAY**)

I am always looking for easy ways to eat healthy.  Last year, a friend of mine (a fitness instructor) recommend making some green smoothies.  I grabbed some greens out of my garden, and the rest was history!  Soon, sugary, processed breakfasts were a thing of the past, and the only thing I will eat in the morning is a smoothie (or fruit, if I don’t have access to a blender!).  I can tell the difference between eating a bagel or even a bowl of granola in the morning – my body craves healthy smoothies – and I feel great when I start off my day with a “clean eating” smoothie.

Not only do I use a variety of fresh ingredients in my smoothies, but I look for ingredients that have nutritional benefits.  One of those ingredients I use every day are chia seeds.  Salba Chia seeds are non-GMO chia seeds that come both whole or ground, and smoothies are such a great way to use these seeds.  As a vegetarian who is health conscious, it never ceases to amaze me at how much is packed into these little seeds:

  • 325% more fiber than oatmeal
  • 800% more Omega-3 (ALA) than salmon
  • 30% more antioxidants than blueberries
  • 1500% more magnesium than broccoli
  • 200% more potassium than bananas

Salba Chia Seeds

Salba Smart chia seeds are so versatile, and even in smoothies you can use either whole or ground (I don’t have a preference, although I have been saving my whole seeds to make Chia Seed Pudding).  If you get in the habit of using it daily, it is such an easy routine to boost your health.  And smoothies are also very simple – I vary the ingredients from day to day by keeping a stack of bananas, a variety of greens in my fridge, and a variety of frozen berries and fruits in my freezer.

Spinach, Banana & Strawberry Smoothie

This is probably my favorite go-to recipe for my daily green smoothie!

Salba Smart Chia Seed Smoothie

Ingredients:

~ 1 cup yogurt (I  used Organic Stonyfield Fat-Free French Vanilla)

~ 1 cup milk (I use coconut or almond milk)

~ 1 banana

~ handful of fresh baby spinach (I used Earthbound Farms organic spinach)

~ handful of fresh or frozen strawberries

~ heaping tablespoon of ground Salba Smart chia seeds

~ optional – honey to sweeten, matcha powder

Salba Smart Chia Seeds Smoothie

Place all ingredients in a blender, and blend until completely smooth.  If the consistency is too thick, add some more milk at the end.  You can also add sweetener at the end, once you get an idea of how sweet the smoothie is (which will also depend on the type of yogurt you use as well as the milk, as far as flavor and if it is unsweetened or sweetened).

This makes one large smoothie (16oz+), or two smaller smoothies (his and hers, perhaps?)!

Salba Smart Smoothie

Mixed Greens, Banana & Blueberry Smoothie

~ handful of fresh or frozen blueberries

~ heaping tablespoon of ground Salba Smart chia seeds

~ optional – honey to sweeten, matcha powder

Place all ingredients in a blender, and blend until completely smooth.

Salba Smart Chia Seeds Blueberries Smoothie

Beet Smoothie

I don’t eat beets very often, so I thought this was a good way to reap the great benefits of beets, as they are packed with vitamins and minerals and are known for things like detoxifying and as a source of energy.

~ 1 cooked beet

~ heaping tablespoon of ground Salba Smart chia seeds

~ optional – honey to sweeten, matcha powder

Place all ingredients in a blender, and blend until completely smooth.
