February is American Heart Month, and with a New Year underway, what better time to focus on living a healthy lifestyle.  It is so important to understand how to take good care of your heart.

Did you know that heart disease is the number 1 killer of women?

To keep your heart healthy, make healthy food choices and be sure to get plenty of exercise.  So in addition to eating healthy, get active!  Working out as little as 30 minutes a day can help to reduce the risk of heart disease.  The benefits of exercise are innumerable and go hand-in-hand with eating healthy.

Not only can you work to keep your own heart healthy, you can be a good role model and start your kids off on the right foot.  The American Heart Association suggests starting at young age to help keep a child’s heart strong and healthy well into the future.  It is so important to make sure kids are developing healthy habits at an early age.

So what are some foods that are good for heart health?

~ 100% grape juice made with Concord grapes

~ Blueberries

~ Blackberries

~ Eggplant

~ Purple potatoes

Have you heard of the many benefits of Concord grapes?  They have a mix of natural plant nutrients called polyphenols, which can help promote health, including heart health.  Welch’s 100% Grape Juice helps support a healthy heart, thanks to the dark purple Concord grape.

Some great facts about Concord grapes and Welch’s:

  • Polyphenols, which give Concord grapes their vibrant purple color, are plant nutrients that help promote health, including heart health.
  • Welch’s 100% Grape Juice helps support a healthy heart, thanks to the dark purple Concord grape.
  • More than a decade’s worth of research suggests that drinking 100% grape juice made with Concord grapes can help support a healthy heart.
  • Welch’s 100% Grape Juice is  a convenient way to incorporate more purple fruit into a healthy diet. As a complement to whole fruit, each 4-oz. glass counts as one serving (1/2 cup) of fruit.
  • Welch’s Grape Juice is made with no added sugar. It’s 100% juice!

My kids love Welch’s grape juice.  It is a fantastic alternative to other juices that have artificial colors, artificial sweeteners, added sugars, and more.  As a parent, I appreciate a product that has no artificial flavors, no preservatives, and no colors added.

Welch's Grape Juice Kids

I love that Welch’s Grape Juice is made with no added sugar.  One of the things I use it for is adding it to my smoothies.  I like to start my day off on the right foot, and so I often make morning smoothies with kale, fruit, and coconut milk.  Welch’s Grape juice adds some flavor and a little extra sweetness, which is great when I don’t have sweet ingredients (such as kale and tart strawberries).  The last thing I want to do is add sugar to a smoothie.

Welch's Grape Juice Smoothie

To make this smoothie, I use a couple leaves of kale (approx. 3 that are just larger than my hand), fruit (a banana, a handful of strawberries, or whatever else you like), and a cup of coconut milk.  Add 1/2 to 1 cup of Welch’s grape juice, depending on how much flavor/sweetness you like, and how thick or thin you want the smoothie to be.  You can also add chia seeds, flax seeds, matcha powder, etc. for an added health boost.
