“Let’s Play Football” Children’s Book (**GIVEAWAY CLOSED**)

If your family enjoys football, one way to introduce kids to the basics of football is a new book, “Let’s Play Football”.  This hardcover children’s book is about a papa bear and his cub, as they learn about football together.  Written by Jon Richter, a baseball coach and father, the book is designed to aid children’s enjoyment and understanding of football!

There are so many different parts of football games, and “Let’s Play Football” is designed to help explain and conceptualize this sport for kids ages 2-6.  My 5 year old daughter really enjoyed this book.  The pictures are action-filled and colorful, and the fact that they had the actual animals rooting for the teams with the same names was fun and helped her understand things better.

Let's Play Football

The book does try to pack a lot of different information and terms into a relatively small amount of text.  Football is a more complex game than, say, soccer, to understand the rules of, so this is understandable, but I’m not sure she really “got” a lot of it, since she only knew the basics of football from watching a bit of it with us. Nonetheless, it was interesting and fun to read, and something that we can continue to use to help her gain an understanding of the game.

The end of the book has a glossary to help kids understand new words and terms.   The glossary was very useful, so we could talk about the terms in the book after reading it to help reinforce what was learned.  This would also be helpful to have on hand while we watch a game.

We also downloaded the accompanying Let’s Play Football app from iTunes, and my daughter liked listening to the book as it was read to her.  There is a quiz she isn’t quite able to do yet, but the app and books are something we will definitely keep reading using, and a great thing to have on Super Bowl Sunday!
