If you haven’t heard of Laura Doherty, you’ll want to check out her third and newest CD, “In a Heartbeat“!  As soon as we heard her music, we fell in love with her folk-pop style, flowing acoustics, and beautiful voice. Laura has won numerous awards for her music, including her album Kids in the City, a Parent’s Choice award winner, as well as Shining Like a Star, which also won a NAPPA award.

The music on this CD is upbeat, yet somehow calming at the same time. I really enjoy this in the car because it doesn’t get the kids worked up and keeps them calm yet entertained. I had this music on while driving in a snowstorm, and it was actually nice to have in the background, instead of some kid’s music which can be distracting or even annoying.  This music puts us in a good mood, and “In a Heart” is certainly heartwarming!

  1. 1

I also appreciate music that keeps my kids calm yet is upbeat and entertaining. I thought I was the only one who judged music on that criteria!

  2. 2

When I played classical music during meals when my kids were young, there was less arguing and fighting. I think the music blocked some of those impulses and calmed them, plus when they were eating their mouths were full.
