As parents, we are the ultimate owners of sleep deprivation. Not only from the infant stage, but as those infants grow into toddlers.  This lack of proper sleep and frustration was the instigator for the development of the Tot Clock. Genius. Kids don’t wake up to aggravate us (most of the time), they simply don’t know what time it is!

My Tot Clock is an all-in-one sleep aid, alarm clock, nightlight, and timer for children ages 2+. It teaches little ones when to sleep (blue light) and when it is okay to get out of bed (yellow light). It also plays bedtime stories, lullabies, fun wake music, and even white noise (like ocean sounds)! As an added bonus, My Tot Clock has a light blue light for nap time, a red light for timeout, and a green light for any positive timed activity, such as brushing their teeth or clean up time. Perfect for those young enough to start learning a daily routine, but not old enough to be able to tell time.  Also great for their sleepy parents! Guaranteed better sleep or your money back!

There are so many great features to this clock, so let’s just dive in!

Although My Tot Clock can be used for both boys and girls, there are different interchangeable face plates that can be purchased to make your My Tot Clock gender specific.

My tot clock

What better way to have a visual representation of time with a child that doesn’t understand the concept yet, than to associate a color timer on the clock!

YELLOW – Awake time

LIGHT BLUE – Nap time

RED – Timeout (1 minute per year old of the child)

GREEN – Encouragement Timer – such as reading, brushing teeth, cleaning up

DARK BLUE (with dimmer) – Bedtime

There is a great panel of buttons and dials on the back for parental control of the clock.

A digital clock is on the back and is completely separate from the analog clock on the front. The analog clock is completely functional, but is used for the education of the child.  The digital clock on the back is set paralleled to the front and is responsible for the functionality of the timers and colors.

The “duration” timer buttons are super easy to set, creating a routine for both you and your child.

There is the ability to set musical alarms for wake-up time.

A white noise feature is also available as an option, but it only continues after 30 minutes of music.

The clock can function on batteries or by cord.

A durable handle allows the clock to travel around the home….or outside of the home.  Great for those timeouts and encouragement times or while traveling.

The timeout and encouragement timers can be turned on with a quick push of the button, but the nap time and bed time timers will be activated either by a routine setup by the parent or a 5 second manual mode press.

Interchangeable cartridges play bedtime stories, lullabies, white noise and wake-up music. Additional stories, outside of the one that comes with the clock, are available for purchase.

I was so very excited when My Tot Clock sent me this clock for our son, Noah.  Noah is a very good child, but very strong willed at the same time.

Noah has been a very difficult sleeper since birth.  He woke up every hour and a half for his first 5 months until I had to start sleep training!  He ultimately did not sleep through the night until he was over a year old (his sister didn’t until she was 18 months old).  Then, for the last year and a half or so, a sudden fear of monsters and shadows in his room has stifled his sleep, and ours as well.  It began with him crawling into our bed in the middle of the night, unbeknownst to us.  Almost immediately, we tried to stop the behavior and couldn’t bear the fear factor that he was enduring, and he was sleeping on a nap mat in our room for about a year.  We have tried every trick in the book….you think it…we’ve tried it.  Nothing worked.  The most recent success was the implementation of the Sleep Fairy.  She worked for about a month and then he asked that she not come anymore….the fear that someone was coming into his room when he was asleep.

I had given up.  Then, as the developer of this clock, the thought went through my head…..”I need one of those clocks!”

Not long after, we were approved to receive and trial the clock.  Although it hasn’t worked 100%, it definitely has helped his sleeping (more so in the daytime), as we still struggle with nighttime fear.

PROS of the Tot Clock

  • Durable and easy to carry around the house
  • Great colors to signify time elapsed
  • Parent manual override option
  • Love the analog and digital clock
  • Soft wake up music was great!
  • Kids LOVE it!

CONS of the Tot Clock (or things I didn’t prefer)

  • We ended keeping the story time turned off at all times
  • Didn’t like that my 2 year old could turn the time out timer on
  • Really don’t like how accessible all of the buttons and knobs are on the back. Would love to see a panel lock on the back. The analog clock really has never shown the right time because the knob on the back is so alluring 😉
  • Batteries drained extremely quickly (within 3 days), so we make sure we use the AC Adapter

One night, a few weeks back, my almost 3 year old son decided that being awake from midnight to 4 am was a good idea. He mostly just sang in bed, but he also kicked the wall a lot. We have no idea why he wouldn’t go back to sleep! My daughter was up twice too from getting woken up by him so I was a little sleep deprived the next day!

Ugh when our son was a newborn and at 1AM he had a “blow out”….up the back and out the legs. Never had to give a bath at that time before along with hand washing his clothes until we could go to the laundry mat.

I wasn’t certain how hard it might be get the My Tot Clock all set up, yet much to my appreciate discovered the user guide to be extremely accommodating and simple to accompany. Presently I had the clock ready to go. I had a feeling this clock might be ideal for our little “O”, and I was correct! With my first son, I had no idea how to manage my time and sleep. He was waking up every 2 hours to nurse and would nurse for 20 minutes at a time and I was exhausted. One night, I went in to check on him and noticed he needed a diaper change. I changed his diaper and stumbled back to bed. The next morning I woke up and when I went to check on him, I realized that I put his new diaper on backwards and inside out and had put his t-shirt on in place of his pants.
