The Sounding Joy – A Christmas CD from Elizabeth Mitchell (**HOLIDAY GIVEAWAY**)

This product was provided free of charge in exchange for an honest review.

Ready or not, Christmas is on the way.  And with it brings the songs of the season.  I love Christmas songs!  Apparently, Elizabeth Mitchell does, too.  In her new album, The Sounding Joy, she includes 24 folk Christmas carols, some of which you may already know and others which may be new to you.  I particularly enjoyed hearing new songs!

From the Publisher, Smithsonian Folkways:

The Sounding Joy is a spirited collection of folk carols drawn from Ruth Crawford Seeger’s 1953 songbook American Folk Songs for Christmas. Featuring Elizabeth Mitchell and a luminary list of her musical family, friends, and neighbors, this album celebrates the spirit of community and homespun traditions that existed in times before the commercialization of Christmas. Natalie Merchant, Aoife O’Donovan, Amy Helm, John Sebastian, Dan Zanes, Happy Traum, and many others including special guest Peggy Seeger all add their voices to pay tribute to a collection revered in the canon of American Music.

Here is a list of songs on this CD, each featuring Elizabeth Mitchell:

Elizabeth Mitchell Sounding Joy

If you are not quite ready to listen to “normal” Christmas music, you will really enjoy this CD.  It is packed with Christmas-themed songs that gently and subtly remind us of the events, importance and purpose of Christmas.  I found myself humming the songs (or parts of the songs) throughout the day and no one else was the wiser that I was singing “Christmas music”.  This is good stuff.

This CD, The Sounding Joy, is available for purchase for $14.98 or download for $9.99.  It comes with a 32-page booklet that includes descriptions of each song and information about the performers on this album.
