When it is time for shopping for craft and school supplies, there are a lot of options to choose from.  It can be tough to make a decision as far as how to pick out supplies.

Dixon Ticonderoga pencils are known as “The Best in the World”.  This year, our first grade teacher specifically requested several dozen Dixon Ticonderoga pencils.  That should be an indicator right there of what teachers like!  I was a fan of these pencils right away, because my pack of pencils came pre-sharpened.  Usually I have to sharpen all of the pencils myself before sending them off to school.

There are so many great qualities to the Dixon Ticonderoga pencils.  They have an exclusive graphic core formula, latex-free erasers, and contains Microban® anti-microbial protection in the finish.

I also had the opportunity to try several Prang products.

The Prang colored pencils are large, sturdy, and triangular in size.  These are much more substantial than other colored pencils that I am used to.  I love that these are triangular, which makes them easy for my kids to hold, but also prevents them from rolling off the table or desk.  These come pre-sharpened, which is great for getting started on projects without delay!

The Prang markers feel very solid, and the caps are ridged so that they don’t roll.  The caps fit on the backs of the markers (so although the markers are round, they won’t roll and you won’t lose the caps if you put them on the back).  These are washable (a must for me!), and are designed so that they won’t dry out even if the cap is left off for a day!  The “bullet” tips of these markers are very durable.

We also tried the Prang watercolor set.  The first thing I noticed is that this set comes with a nice-quality brush.  It is a wooden brush with real bristles – not one of those skinny plastic ones with plastic bristles.  The colors are rich and vibrant.

The colors seem to be very rich – look at this “Halloween” theme picture that my daughter painted.

The colors also seemed more “true to color” than some other sets.  This underwater scene was truly blue, whereas another set we used had a more turquoise appearance.

Overall, we really enjoyed using Prang and Dixon Ticonderoga products.  I have to say I might not have been likely to pick up Prang products at the store before, but they have some really great features that make their art supplies stand out.
