I am a huge fan of coconut oil, and I use it on my skin quite frequently. I decided that I would start making my own sugar scrub instead of buying it. The best part is that this is all natural and you know exactly what is going into it. It is even edible!
I use this coconut brown sugar scrub on my body, and even my face. It is wonderful for legs before shaving. This also feels amazing to massage on your feet.
After using this in the shower, my skin feels conditioned. This scrub has just the right amount of moisture, and once I dry off, I do not feel greasy. Coconut scrub is soothing to my skin in both the summer and winter, to help combat everything from dry skin to gardener’s hands.
Be careful, as this will leave a residue in the tub after showering, which can leave it slippery, so I recommend cleaning the tub after using this scrub.
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/2 to 1 cup brown sugar
Optional: essential oil, vanilla extract, citrus zest, etc.
Coconut oil is often solid at room temperature, so you may need to warm it up to a state where it can be mixed.
Combine the coconut oil and the sugar, mixing thoroughly and making sure that there are no lumps.
If you want to add some scent, you can add in essential oils or other things (vanilla extract, lemon rind, etc) slowly until it is the right strength for you. You may need to add a little extra sugar to make up for the liquid added.
Keep the scrub in a closed container.
You can get really creative with coconut sugar scrubs. Try using regular white sugar, coarse sugar, recipes with salt, or a variety of scents and combinations.
