Salba Chia Tortilla Chips & Salsa (**GIVEAWAY**)

This product was provided free of charge in exchange for an honest review.

Living in the Northeast, most people can agree that they are relieved when summer finally arrives!  A big part of our summer are BBQs and eating outside, and this usually means lots of chips and dip!  I was excited to try Salba Chia’s tortilla chips and salsa, and excited to share with friends and family too.

The chips taste great, and have a rich, slightly nutty flavor to them.  They hold up great for dipping and have a nice texture.  I am not sure I would be able to tell these have chia seeds in them unless you told me.

The Salba Chia salsa is also excellent.  It is chunky, with a good texture and consistency.  I tried the medium salsa and it had just the right amount of spice and ‘bite’ to it (they also offer mild and hot).  I wasn’t sure how it would be with the chia seeds in it, but I really don’t notice anything out of the ordinary about the texture.

The Organic Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips were just named SELF Magazine’s 2013 Healthy Snack winner!  And I can see why – they are delicious, and it is a great way to ‘sneak’ some nutrition in to one of our favorite snack foods!  I take it upon myself to encourage my family to eat healthier, and I was happy that both my husband and kids enjoyed the chips and dip.

I am thrilled that my girls enjoy these products.  Omega-3’s are so important for growing bodies (and brains!), and chia seeds are a great way of sneaking a good serving of nutrition into their diet, especially since we are a vegetarian family.  Salba chia is the richest whole food source of Omega-3 fatty acids (ALA) and fiber found in nature on a gram for gram basis.  Every 15g serving of Salba provides over 3,400 mg of Omega-3s (ALA) – 800% more Omega-3 (ALA) than salmon (EPA/DHA).

Both bags of corn chips are organic and are labeled as a non-GMO verified product.  We have been trying to reduce our consumption of GMOs (especially corn), and I am so happy that this product is not just healthy and fortified with chia seeds, but organic!  The salsa is organic as well.  Seeing the non-GMO label is reassuring, and encouraging to see such great products that are GMO-free.

Salba chia offers a variety of products, including whole and ground seeds, and if you need some help getting creative with Salba chia, they have great recipes right on their website, like Southwest Veggie Soup, (featuring Salba Chia Salsa!).  I usually start my day with some Salba Chia seeds right in my granola, but you can put chia into so many foods, from breakfast to dinner.

One of my favorite summer foods is to make smoothies with fresh berries.  For this one, I used french vanilla yogurt, frozen raspberries (you could use any kind of berries) as well as fresh strawberries that we picked, and a dash of vanilla.  And, of course, some spoonfuls of chia seeds!  It really doesn’t matter what kind of smoothie you make, it is super easy to sprinkle in some chia seeds.
