Scholastic’s Springtime Collection of Stories (**GIVEAWAY**)

It is time to look forward to Spring. Scholastic Storybook Treasures has put together a collection of stories to celebrate Spring.  As usual, their stories are a artfully narrated and beautifully illustrated bunch.  Here is what this collection includes:

“Max’s Chocolate Chicken and more stories by Rosemary Wells”

Whomever finds the most eggs gets a chocolate chicken…supposedly.

Max wants to stay up to see Santa Claus, but will his being awake keep Santa from coming?

Morris is disappointed in his Christmas gift until he finds a forgotten gift under the tree.  It is a delightful treasure that makes everything better.

It is election time at Barkadelphia school.  Who will win?  When the competition gets a mean, a quiet competitor emerges.

This DVD  also includes the Spanish version of “Max’s Christmas”, an interview with Rosemary Wells, author of “Otto Runs For President”, plus “A Visit With Rosemary Wells”.

The Red Hen

The classic story of the hen who does it all herself and the consequences to her unhelpful friends is retold with a new flair.  The illustrations are not your typical illustrations, nor are the characters your typical farm animals.  The narrator for this story, Walter Mayes, will have you cracking up.  What a hoot!

  • BREAD COMES TO LIFE  (Narrated by Lily Tomlin)

A loving ode to the thousands of kinds of bread.  It includes an explanation of yeast’s work and shows the progression of wheat from seed to flour to bread on the table.  What a well done movie.  I loved it!

Do your children eat like dinosaurs, without manners?  This story is for them.  A variety of ill-mannered dinosaurs show how NOT to behave at mealtime and then how meals should be eaten.  Humorous illustrations and accompanying music make the story especially engaging.

A day in the life of a doughnut (and his friends), from the perspective of the doughnut.  It is not quite like you might expect!

This DVD  also includes an easy-to-follow recipe for Simply Splendid Cake!

Chicken Little

A classic story, retold with humor, this story and its hilarious illustrations, combined with the dramatic narration done by Walter Mayes, will have you rolling on the floor.

What happens when a boy makes himself look like a shark so he can swim unimpeded by other humans?  Not what you might think.

What happens when Tom the cat, who has only three legs, is mistaken for a warm winter hat?  He gets to see the world and his wearer, Cyril, gets a warm head!

Duck is at it again, but this time he enlists the help of the cows and other farm animals.  Another hilarious tale from Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin.

This DVD  also includes and interview with the author and illustrators of “Chicken Little”, Rebecca and Ed Emberley.

The Read-Along Feature on each DVD is one of my favorite things about Scholastic Storybook Treasure’s productions.  It allows the viewer to see the words as they are spoken, offering the opportunity to increase language awareness and reading readiness.  Scholastic Storybook Treasures brings literature to life and can help raise interest in reading.  They make great resources to support further interest in a specific topic.  And, they are so much fun that kids may not realize they are learning!

Happy reading!
