Stressed Out Mommy Playlist

On Facebook today, I posted about how playing certain kinds of music in the background can mellow you out when you’re feeling the stresses of mommyhood.  It’s even nice to turn on your playlist before waking up the kids in the morning to get you in the right frame of mind.  I know that for me personally, it calms me down, makes me a little more patient and reminds me of how little and precious my kids are and that the dishes can wait.  Don’t believe that it helps?  I challenge you to try it for a few days, and see the difference.  It really eases frustrations everyone listening, kids included.

On Facebook, I also promised to give you our specific “emergency” playlist of when I am being short and feeling like I’m going to explode.  This is actually a list of songs I compiled for a video I was making for our oldest child’s first 5 years.  I researched hundreds of songs, narrowed them down, then handpicked several of the ones that are on our playlist.  Then I added a few more just for fun, and even expanded to include tracks from our other playlists.

But you don’t have to use these particular songs.  Any soothing, inspirational, Christian or even some kids songs could work, though I would urge you to pick songs that remind you of the gifts in front of you in a genre that you enjoy rather than songs that irritate you.  Be careful not to choose music that makes you feel hurried or evokes anger or other unwanted emotions.  Instead, pick songs that give you what I like to call a “Mommy’s Time-out.”  They calm you down, stir up good feelings and memories, and gently encourage you to regroup and focus on the important things.

Again, this is our personal playlist, so some of these may not “move” you but they have a special meaning to our family. You can also find these in our Amazon Store as MP3 Downloads.
