“Keep Toys Clean” Scotch-Brite Botanical Disinfecting Wipes Challenge (+ $100 Toys R Us GC **GIVEAWAY**)

Disclaimer: This product was provided free of charge in exchange for an honest review.

In the midst of winter and cold and flu season, I’m  more apt to be cooped up indoors.  Couple it with the extra visitors that the season brings, and that means everything in my home gets handled by more people and kids than I’d like to think about.  Instead of my home being a clean, safe haven, it quickly becomes a harboring place for bacteria, viruses, germs and dust. Yuck!

I have always been a cleaning fanatic, but I don’t mess around with chemicals anymore.  A few years ago I traded all of my conventional cleaning agents for safer, natural (and mostly homemade) options for the sake of my young children and pets.  Unfortunately, that meant that the convenient disinfecting (chemically-laden) wipes I religiously used on just about everything had to go.

When Scotch-Brite asked if I wanted to review their disinfecting wipes, I hesitated.  Then I read the ingredients and was ecstatic – I could finally return to using timesaving disinfecting wipes to protect my family from the germs and viruses that the wintery season brings!

Good Fact:  3M Scotch-Brite Botanical Disinfecting Wipes kill 99.9% of household germs and cold & flu viruses:  Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella enterica, Staphylococcus aureus, Methicillin Resistant S. aureus (MRSA), Enterobacter aerogenes, Influenza A virus, Rhinovirus type 37, and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Type 1. Sanitizes hard non-porous non-food contact surfaces of Staphylococcus aureus and Enterobacter aerogenes in the presence of light or moderate soil load with a 30-second contact time.

The EPA-registered wipes have “CleanWell Inside” technology and are made from botanically pure plant extracts – killing germs the natural way.  The active ingredient is… thymol! No alcohols, no bleach, no harsh chemicals, no toxic ingredients!

Clean Fact: Thyme oil is a non-toxic plant extract that has been used as an antiseptic for thousands of years.

What a breath of fresh air!  Literally.  Not only can I be rest assured that I won’t breathe in toxic fumes or worry that my dogs or kids will lick the freshly wiped surfaces, but they are also non-drying for those with dry or sensitive skin.  This is especially important for my dry skin during the dryness of winter.

Dirty Fact: When you use a rag or sponge to clean surfaces, you are likely just spreading bacteria from area to area.  These disinfecting wipes clean and disinfect simultaneously.

Did you know that with other leading disinfecting wipes a freshly wiped surface needs to be rinsed before food comes into contact with it?  Not with 3M Scotch-Brite Botanical Disinfecting Wipes.  They are completely no-rinse and leave no residue.

Because they are kid, pet and food surface-safe and because no rinsing is required, they are perfect for highchairs , kitchen counters, and toys.  Especially during this season, I like to keep my family healthy by continually cleaning the toys the baby mouths or things that multiple people constantly touch, like wii remotes, light switches, faucets, phones and door handles.

It also makes it a breeze to keep the kitchen counters and the dining room table germ-free!

The best part is that my kids can help clean, and I don’t panic if they don’t wash their hands immediately after.  It’s definitely the safer alternative.

These would also be great for classrooms. I know I’d feel better knowing my Kindergartener wasn’t handling harsh products when cleaning his desk at school everyday.

BUY IT! 3M Scotch-Brite Botanical Disinfecting Wipes are available in 2 varieties, Lemongrass and Breeze (a fresh, light and almost sweet fragrance), but both still heavily favor the natural thyme scent.  My husband loves it and says it smells like a pizzeria!  You can purchase either in a 35 or 75-wipe pack at local grocery stores, Walgreens, Staples, Target, Walmart, Lowes, Amazon and more!

I use a damp Qtip to get at those small hard to reach/clean areas.
    Thank you.

An inexpensive way to clean toys is to soak them in a solution of bleach and water.
Use 1 tablespoon of bleach for every gallon of water. Drain, rinse and allow toys to air dry overnight in the sink.
    Thanks for the chance!

  3. 53

We use white vinegar and water because it’s safe for children and takes care of germs.

  4. 54

My tip is to soak (Non-electronic) toys in the tub using a bleach & water solution.

  5. 55

I usually use a mixture of 50/50 distilled water/white vinegar w/ some TTO in it to clean our toys. I also use old toothbrushes to get into cracks & crevices.

My tip is to use a single wipe for each toy as to not spread germs, and to always dry toys completely after cleaning them.

  11. 61

I wipe as much as I can down with a cloth with bleach on it. Soak toys that can go in water in bleach/water solution and spray the room with lysol.

My tip is to not obsess over toy wiping…I’ll absolutely wash a toy/paci down if it falls on say, a bathroom floor, or a pool deck. But I’m not going to wash it every time it falls on my living room floor, because I want my son to build up a healthy immune system!

  14. 64

All the toys that are able get regular “baths” in the dishwasher!
