This week we finished up our 30-day “test drive” of Progressive’s snapshot.

For the past 30 days, Snapshot has tracked miles/time driven, rapid accelerations and hard braking. I didn’t have to switch my insurance to try it, and the included a pre-paid label to send the Snapshot back. Even though I don’t have immediate plans to switch, I’ll have have six months to buy a Progressive auto policy at my personalized rate.

The device was very small and only took a second to plug in. It beeped to remind you it was there, then beeped when it recorded hard braking. My husband thinks this isn’t the best idea for someone who is constantly braking for squirrels with a death wish, ha ha.

I received email updates throughout the month, and I could also log in at any time to see my savings. We put the Snapshot in my husband’s car, which is driven a lot to and from work (when we started the trial, I was rarely driving since school was out for summer.) This of course is the largest factor in our savings. Our savings started pretty high when we plugged in the Snapshot while my husband was off work, then saw it plummet with his daily commute.

Although I do not plan to switch insurance companies, it was fun (and free) to try Snapshot! Take Snapshot for a test drive today with your own free, 30-day trial at http://www.progressive.com/auto/snapshot-test-drive.aspx
