Back-to-School: Lunch Time Edition (**GIVEAWAY**)

I have such fond memories of going back school. Gathering school supplies, meeting new and old friends, organizing my backpack and wearing a new outfit on the first day. My very favorite school memory though, is taking my lunch to school. Every morning my mom would pack my lunch while my dad made breakfast. My dad is a great artist, so at the beginning of each week he would “decorate” our lunch sacks. Then as my mom was packing the food, she would often slip a little note into our bags. She would usually write the note on our napkin.

Lunches weren’t fancy or extravagant. No bento boxes, but they were always healthy. PB&J, bananas and string cheese were usually staples. But it didn’t matter what was in the bag – I couldn’t wait for lunch time. To see what my dad had drawn and what my mom wrote was the highlight of the day.

Now, as I send our kids to school, I want them to have the same experience with lunch. And I have found the coolest way to make it happen.

I have always written little notes for our children, tucked in different places and hidden in different spots. Not every single day, but often. Now, instead of writing them I use Lunchbox Love for kids. These little notes are already written for you and are ready to just drop in lunch boxes, backpacks and notebooks. I even put them in between the pages in our kid’s books and under their pillows. They would also be perfect for camp, Teacher appreciation and even Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Each card has a fun fact on the back and words of encouragement on the front. They are about the size of a credit card, written on heavy cards stock, and really colorful. They even make cards with jokes on one side – sure to make your child a hit with the lunch crowd.

I love that they are creative, written for you, and filled with fun facts. Not only do our kids know I love them and think about them when they are gone, but they are learning at the same time. They also make special notes for tweens and teens, for significant others, and even for holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas). Cards come in sets of 12, 10 with messages and 2 left blank for you to write your own personalized notes.

Our kids like to keep the notes. Our daughter brings them home and keeps them in her “special box”. Our son keeps his at school and likes to read through them again and again.

These notes are wonderful. Don’t forget to sneak one in your spouse’s bag before they head out for the day also. :)

Now that you have the perfect note for your child’s lunch, it’s time to think about how to pack their lunches. And just like the perfect note, we have found the perfect lunch bag.

Our daughter is taking her lunch to school each day in a Dabbawalla Bag. Inspired by the legendary system of dabbawallas delivering homemade lunch to thousands of office workers in India, they are a fun and functional way for your little one to take their lunch and gear on the go. Our favorite is the lunch purse, crafted from eco-sponge neoprene, an innovative, machine-washable fabric that cushions, protects and insulates. Throw some Lunchbox Love Notes in a Dabbawalla Bag and your kids will thank you all school year.

I have been very impressed with the Dabbawalla Bags. They are so well made, the colors are bright and inviting, and they wash up really well. This bag will stand the test of time and be a family favorite for many years to come. They also make backpacks, lunch sacks and snack sacks.

Between the Lunchbox Love Notes and a Dabbawalla Bag your kids will be all ready for the new school year – no matter where they go to learn.
