Putumayo’s Instrumental Dreamland **GIVEAWAY**

Relaxation and peaceful music is always an asset to creating an atmosphere conducive to sleep!  Putumayo Kids will release their new album on February 28th that really fits the bill!  Instrumental Dreamland is a collection of international lullabies and classic children’s songs set in soothing instrumentation.  This is the perfect album for listening to before or during naptime, bedtime or anytime you want to calm the chaos!   The selections include:

“What a Wonderful World”

Damien Erwin (USA)

“Bressay Lullaby”

Sue Richards & Maggie Sansone (USA)

“O Filho Que Eu Quero Ter”

Reginaldo Frazatto, Jr (Brazil)

“Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”

Michael Allen Harrison (USA)

““Komoriuta”  (“Lullaby”)

Masahiro Nitta (Japan)

“Kouyate” (Thanks Good People)

Balla Tounkara (Mali)

“Pupu Hinuhinu” (“Shiny Shell Lullaby”)

Keola Beamer (Hawaii, USA)

“Hand in Hand”

Tony Ellis (USA)

“Honu’s Dream”

Kohala & Jake Shimabukuro (Hawaii, USA)

“The Lark”

Seamus Egan (Ireland/USA)

“Brahm’s Lullaby”

Victor Johnson (USA)

Although predominantly familiar American lullabies, this album allows you to expose your children to a few sleepytime songs from Brazil, Ireland, Mali and Japan.  This opens doors to the wonder of the music of other cultures and can create a love of music other than that to which they are regularly exposed.  I love being able to teach my kids about other cultures via music.  My favorite is “Brahm’s Lullaby” by Victor Johnson, but I also greatly enjoyed “Kouyate” (Thanks Good People) by Balla Tounkara (Mali) and “The Lark” by Seamus Egan (Ireland/USA).

Instrumental Dreamland comes with “a colorful CD package which features informative child-friendly notes about the origin of the music and featured artists, as well as Nicola Heindl’s distinctive artwork.”  What a terrific resource for learning!

It is amazing how you can completely change an atmosphere from charged with energy to calm and relaxed just by changing the music.  Making Instrumental Dreamland a part of your bedtime (and/or naptime) routine can work to your advantage by signaling that it is time to settle down and go to sleep.  And you don’t even have to say the words.

Instrumental Dreamland is the sixth album in the Dreamland series.  The other albums include African Dreamland, Celtic Dreamland, Asian Dreamland, Dreamland and Acoustic Dreamland.  Each is available for SRP $14.98 from Putumayo and other retailers around the world.  What a terrific resource for parents and teachers alike!  These CDs would make perfect baby gifts, too!

Teachers might also be interested in Putumayo’s Playground series which has available teaching guides, song lyrics and maps and ideas for including these CDs in your after school program.
