The Joy of Christmas Giveaway: Nature Blocks from Lakeshore Learning

Next up in our Joy of Christmas Giveaway Event, is another fabulous toy from…

The first time I was introduced Lakeshore products was at our local Children’s Museum. Out of all the flashy and exciting toys on the third floor, both my (then) 2 year old son and I were most drawn to some search and find bean bags.  I am almost certain they were rhyming words (not the alphabet ones I linked to), but I can no longer find them on Lakeshore’s website.  But the point is that we played with those bean bags for at least 30 minutes, which is quite a feat for a 2 year old at a bustling Children’s Museum.  I just had to see who made those products.  And that’s how Lakeshore does it.  They just draw you in with these fabulous and unique educational toys.

You’ll definitely want to put this next product on your holiday gift list, as it’s one of our absolute favorite toys (and the best blocks ever invented according to my husband)

Nature Blocks!

Actually, I’m not sure who has more fun – my kids or my husband.

This proportionate 36-piece set is made of all-natural, smooth (sanded) wood in a variety of shapes, sizes, natural textures and irregularities, and is perfect for exploring problem solving, perception, fine motor skills and early math concepts.  Make towers and structures, sequential patterns or simply count the tree’s growth rings!

If you are expecting a perfectly even block set that you can build the tallest towers, well, this wouldn’t be the set you are looking for.  But this is so much better than that in my opinion.  They are more challenging and interesting for kids, and the round ring pieces allow you to make some pretty awesome things – such as a reindeer or a car (both figures are  shown on the box).  I do wish, however, that it included a few smaller tree rings and plank pieces (the pieces shown on the box are a bit deceiving in size and appear smaller than the actual pieces).

Here’s what’s included:

  • 24 tree cylinders in 5 assorted sizes
  • 6 tree rings
  • 3 planks
  • 3 forked branches

There is only one problem with this set… I highly recommend more than one set, especially if you have more than one child!

The set retails for $44.95 and the suggested age is 3 to 6 years (but we all know adults will like to play with them, too).
