The Joy of Christmas Giveaway: Heirloom Wooden Toys

Next on our Joy of Christmas Giveaway Event, is…

Heirloom Wooden Toys has been near and dear to our heart since our beginning.  As a family-owned business, they take an extra measure of pride in providing the very best – whether it’s in customer service or in their natural, imaginative toys of heirloom quality.  And by definition, because of their superior quality, heirloom toys have an extended play life and can be passed down to future generations for active play (and not for sitting on a display shelf).  Now isn’t that how toys should be?

Instead of focusing on the current toy fad that your children are likely to toss aside in a matter of weeks (months if you’re lucky), this Christmas, why not focus on heirloom-caliber toys for your children?  After all don’t they deserve the very best?

This is a perfect time of year to give them musical instruments and foster a lifetime passion for music.   It has been shown that exposing children to instruments early in life helps them to express themselves and develop and increase focus.  So perhaps an oval xylophone or a banjo would unleash the inner musician in your child?

We were excited to be able to review the Schoenhut 25-Key Traditional Spinet Piano, which has graced our living room for the past couple of months.  Anyone who comes over to our house can’t help but comment on and touch this classical-looking instrument.  And it really is beautiful.

But the best part isn’t its appearance.  It’s the pure enjoyment that my two children have when playing it (that is, when they aren’t fighting over who gets to sit on the bench first).  It’s priceless! With its chime-like tones, this masterfully made toy piano never needs tuning(Whew!)

The super-lightweight piano comes fully assembled. The only assembly required is the small matching bench (which takes a mere two minutes to put together).

Included with the set is a simple (right hand, white keys only) songbook and a tri-play color strip chart to help your child learn how to play and stretch his or her fingers properly.  This play-by-color teaching method is really brilliantly simple (even for the youngest of children), and it can be used on adult-sized keyboards as well.  Though, I have to admit that it’s a bit awkward to have the strip behind the keys.

In my opinion, the Schoenhut spinet piano is perfectly sized for children under 5, but this particular piano has been played at Carnegie Hall by an internationally acclaimed concert pianist – so it is possible for adult-sized hands to play it, too.  If it tells you anything about its quality, it’s the only toy piano ever played at Carnegie Hall.

But Heirloom Wooden Toys doesn’t only have musical instruments.  They have everything from sleds (how cool is this Butterfly Convertible Sled/Wagon?) and classic wooden rocking chairs to playhouses and lofts and play kitchens(And everything else in-between.)  Be sure to also check out their sales and specials.

BUY IT!  The Schoenhut 25-Key Traditional Spinet Piano comes in black, mahogany, red or white for $149.90 with free shipping.  Actually, all orders over $99 at Heirloom Wooden Toys are FREE.  Anything under $99 is only a $5 shipping charge.  All products (with the exception of their custom-made products) come with a 90-day guarantee, whether it’s been played with or not.

I had a toy piano like this when I was little. If I won this for Meadow, I’m not sure who would play with it more – me or her! I think probably me!
