African Lullabies and Nursery Rhymes (**GIVEAWAY**)

Have you ever wondered what mothers in other countries sing to their babies to soothe them?  What do these children sing to themselves and with their friends?  Secret Mountain has published a new collection of lullabies and nursery rhymes in song from all over Africa.  This collection includes 11 different languages.  The music is beautifully simple and simultaneously complex.  It gives the listener a glimpse into everyday life in far away places.

This collection comes with a beautifully illustrated hardbound book that offers pictures and translations for each song.  (The CD tucks into a pocket in the back.)  The translations are a wonderful treasure trove of information and insight into the meaning of the lyrics.  One thing I have learned is that kids love to hear other kids sing.  This album allows them to hear kids from other countries sing…a double treat!  I think you will find yourself and your children humming along after just a couple of listenings.  I enjoyed listening to the songs with my children and having them guess what the story told in each one.  Sometimes it was easy to guess, but often we were way off.

This 48-minute CD and 64-page book set would make a unique baby gift, Christmas gift, birthday present or addition to your multi-cultural collection for education and fun.  Purchasing books and music like this are an investment in your child’s education and future.  I encourage you to check it out for yourself.  You can listen to samples or purchase the book/CD combination for $16.95 (US), the CD only (with PDF files of lyrics and translations) or download the MP3 files.

You can also follow Secret Mountain on Facebook and Twitter to keep up with their latest releases of more great music!  For instance, check out their storybook and CD set called “A Duck in New York City”.  It looks like another fun listening and learning opportunity.
